Terrible scriptwriting. Not believable that the Nathan James would go rescue one person from a fishing vessel given the risks. Not believable that the Navy didn't know it had two helicopters in the air. Not believable that the waters in which the Captain and Tex were "swimming" were calm and that they swam a good distance. Not believable that another person on the ship was not brought in to listen to the Russian spy translate what he heard over the airwaves since I thought (previous episode) that there was a least one other person on the ship that knew some Russian. Can't stand Tex - totally out for himself. And, a relationship with the Doctor - he is totally outclassed - another example of poor scriptwriting.
My god was it awful. Also this review contains spoilers. I'm willing to suspend disbelief to a certain degree, but this show was just stupid. Captain we have to use one of your aircraft hangars because no place else is big enough and the script says we can't just use a storage space or two rooms instead. Oh yeah and forget your sea-hawks and maintenance, although they will be important later on in the show. Communications. We know you're the captain of the ship, but we need you to make sure not to check the scientists for any communication devices that would make your communications black out pointless. Also for no good reason at all, we will not be telling you what your true mission is, despite how important it is. No need for the CAPTAIN to have any information that would be extremely important in the survival of the ship and/or mission, but we trust this scientist chick and her Russian cohort!!! The first big bout of idiocy started when the Russians attacked with rotary-wing aircraft. Salvo of rockets from 100 meters couldn't take out a couple of snowmobiles. Then they fly in and shoot from 50 meters and couldn't hit a thing. They apparently give up and go after the the stationary scientists... can't hit the stationary civilians from 50 meters with their door gunner... Really? We got a flesh wound, but it's a TV show and we all know people in TV show can be shot anywhere in the shoulder or along the sides of their bodies with no problem. It's not like they have kidneys or livers or anything. Then the US ground troops take out one of the helicopters with small arms fire that causes an almost immediate explosion and rips the tail rotor apart. Let's not even talk about the heat seeking AT4 fired from the back of a snowmobile, ha ha. Then comes phase 2 of the brilliant attack strategy. Drop in some soldiers from the helicopters. Fire first from 30 meters, miss every shot until the US troops fire and hit every target immediately killing all the Russian troops. Talk about suspending disbelief!! Now cut to multiple missile hits on the ship that literally do nothing. Didn't even chip the paint, no fires, no breeches... nothing! Wow, what a threat!! If I had an indestructible craft, just order everyone inside and sail away to conserve ammunition. Onto the stiff acting and a captain who is immune to the passage of electricity who is holding the largest fuse I have ever seen in my life. Why not just hold any number of metal tools lying around and try to insulate your hand instead? I'm the captain and this scene shows how tough and stupid I am, out of the way plebes!! So an EMP that is powerful enough to blow that huge fuse didn't fry most of the electronics aboard the ship? Just turned off the electricity by blowing huge fuses. In reality you would have much less damage to a ship that size because it acts as a Faraday cage, but if it did blow those huge fuses, it would be powerful enough to destroy almost all the electronics on that ship. Fast forward a bit to looting the cruise ship. The first thing I thought when they said they where going to salvage it for supplies, someone is going to get infected. What I didn't realize was that when someone was infected, he immediately commits suicide. You're on a fully stocked cruise ship and have at least a few days to off yourself! Just stay there and jerk it for a few days and at least get drunk before doing yourself in, sorry it was in the script.... immediate suicide it is. Also let's ignore the fact that they are bringing aboard food contaminated by this highly communicable virus that can survive for centuries or longer in the arctic. I also find it highly questionable that a cruise ship from another country can seamlessly transfer fuel to a US navy war ship, but I don't know enough about Navy ships to dispute that, although it sounds off. I'm imagining an Italian engineer designing this ship and looking over to his financiers and saying "make sure it's capable of in route refueling with every possible adapter at a moments notice!!" Vaccines. It's just a TV show, so two virologists are going to create a vaccine in a piece of crap understaffed and ill-equipped laboratory, Right sure they are. Let's just take a huge dump on how vaccine science works. Oh yeah I almost forgot. You're just a captain so whatever you do, do not take away those security problem causing sat phones so the implausible Russian spy can call the motherland or whatever the hell he is doing. This show is complete trash and the target audience are the mentally incapacitated and mouth breathers. I didn't think it was possible, but I found a show that makes less sense than "revolution".

Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes is now in production on a new apocalyptic drama series for TNT called "The Last Ship", about a Navy destroyer whose captain and crew become some of the few remaining survivors on the planet after a global catastrophe. There are over 200 personnel aboard that ship, minus the people who were killed serving on that ship. Every once in a while, new members will board that ship. 80% of the world population perished. A Season 4 flashback revealed he was beaten to death and mugged on the streets. Lucas Slattery died from the red virus before the show started. Season One Frankie Benz shoots himself in the head after being exposed to the contaminated blood on board the cruise ship. Amir and his men are gunned down by Chandler and his crew. Berchim and Smith are gunned down by Ruskov's gunboat while attempting to disarm his mines. Karina is sent down river to be killed after insulting El Toro in his presence. Malone and his team are gunned down in the mess hall by Cruz, O'Connor, and Miller shortly after Slattery cut the power. Sean was still alive when the ship was sinking though. Dr. Rachel Scott is shot outside her hotel room by Curtis. Season Three Lincoln and Tran Ha Binh are gunned down in the club by Toshiro's men during a plot to abduct Slattery and his team. Valerie Raymonde and the flight crew are blown away in an explosion on the plane. We learn President Peng Wu and Allison Shaw were behind it in an attempt to take out Tom Chandler. LTJG Will Mason is shot during the club raid by Toshiro's men. He is later drained of his blood completely. Kenji is gunned down by MSS after running out in the open shortly after telling Chandler who kidnapped his crew. Kudelski sets off one of Takehaya's water mines and is blown away while attempting to defuse them. Javier Cruz takes a bullet to the neck during a firefight with Takehaya's men while rescuing Slattery and his people. Toshiro is stabbed in the neck with a pair of scissors by Doc Rios. President Jeff Michener is discovered by Kara Foster with a tie tied around his neck and a bedpost, looking like a suicide. We learn Allison Shaw had Costas assassinate him. Lau Hu gets his neck broken in a fight with Wolf Taylor. Kanoa is gunned down outside the factory by Chinese Commandos. Alex Rivera and Senator William Beatty are gunned down in a drive-by by Allison Shaw's enforcers. Raife is blasted with a shotgun by Kara Foster while attempting to kill her and Jacob Barnes. President Peng Wu gets a katana driven through his stomach by Takehaya. Peng pushes the katana further in to avoid giving Chandler the information he wants. Takehaya died off-screen from the virus shortly after the fight against Peng. Kyoko returns to Japan to died alongside her husband. Jacob Barnes is captured, beaten to a pulp, and shot in the head by Costas. Jed Chandler is killed off-screen by Allison Shaw's men while kidnapping Tom's kids. Roberta Pryce is shot in the head by Costas as a double-cross by Allison Shaw. Agent Costas is gunned down on the plane by Tex. Agent Powell is shot with his own weapon by Tom Chandler. Tex Nolan is shot in the gunfight with Allison Shaw's security personnel and bleeds out. Allison Shaw is shot dead by Tom Chandler as an act of retribution. Season Four Capt. Michelle Boylan is gunned down in a firefight with Omar and his men. Mahmoud Zeddam is brutally sliced up by Omar Bin Dalik during an attack on Rota Naval Base. Alex was discovered dead in his burning fishing boat by Tom Chandler. Moose was present during the event. Moose is tossed from a balcony on Giorgio Velleks orders as penance for losing a fight to Ares. Djamila Zeddam gets her throat sliced open by Omar Bin Dalik after putting a knife in his back. HM1 Heggen is stabbed with a scalpel by Harry Sinclair. Chief Technician O'Connor is stabbed in the neck with a scalpel during a struggle with Harry Sinclair. Captain Harry Sinclair is shot in the back by Tom Chandler while fleeing with the seeds. He dies shortly after giving Fletcher the seeds. Omar bin Dalak and his men are killed in an explosion in Giorgio's house set by Carlton Burke. Demetrius has a poison pill forced down his throat by James Fletcher. Ares is shot by the Greek guards, allowing time for the Greene, Wolf, and Miller to escape. Commander James Fletcher is shot in the head by Giorgio Vellek, but not before telling the Nathan James where the Triton was going. Captain Maria Petrou and the Demeteris vessel are blown away with explosives caused by Greene, Wolf, and Kandie. Captain George Varvis and the Nereus Vessel are sank with torpedoes by the Nathan James. Chief Warrant Officer Rodney Poynter is shot with AA fire from the HS Triton. His bird goes down but not before Kathleen jumped out. Giorgio Vellek suffered from a missile strike on board Stavros's ship by the Nathan James. Maroudiss is hit with 50 cal fire from Kara Greene while covering Lucia Vellek. Commander Stavros Diomedes is hit with 50 cal fire from Kara Greene while manning a machinegun.
