The Incident By A Bank

In Stockholm, on June 2006, unexpectedly, two friends witness right before their very eyes the failed attempt of two masked men on a moped to rob a bank. Perplexed and stunned by the incident which unfolds in broad daylight, a small crowd of passersby watch the clumsy and clueless duo fail, in a bank heist where everything goes wrong all at once.
An attempted bank robbery. Follows the thought process of two confused witnesses, the filmographer and the producer.
"Händelse vid bank" or "Incident by a Bank" is a 12-minute live action short film from 2009, so this one will soon have its 10th anniversary. The writer and director is Ruben Östlund and this is his most recent short film. It garnered a nice deal of awards attention by scoring nominations at the European Film Awards, the Sundance Film Festival and even won a Golden Bear. I personally do not really see the appeal. The fact that it is based on real events is not enough to let me like it really as it does not make the film stand out in any way. It would have been an impressive coincidence if Östlung had recorded the actual events, but reenactment is something we honestly see in every movie. Yes I was curious about what was going to happen next, but eventually, it is still a very random and not very memorable outcome we have here. If you really are interested in (botched) bank robberies, then see it. Otherwise skip it. It's something you'd expect to see in television when it comes to finding dangerous criminals, like an excerpt out of "Aktenzeichen XY". I give it a thumbs-down and I have no clue why awards bodies loved it that much.
This is an reenactment of observations which was observed beside a bank in Sweden, in 2006, a true story, made by Swedish film maker Robert Østlund. It's an observation of a bank robbery which looks like a joke with a lot of spectators . Some are interfering, some are not, and some are even filming the incident, so the film gets some kind if meta theme as well.

For those who have seen Play by the same director, the style is recognizable. Observations seen from a distance, and you are observing.

It's quite dramatic, still it's also a bit funny, due to the perpetrators. Not an everyday event, but told the way it is, and almost making it an every day event.

The reenactment is quite impressively made. It looks like it's completely real. It's only done in a minutes with choreography, and shot in one long one take, with impressive 96 actors, both professional and non-professionals.
