Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, 'Hotel Artemis' follows the Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals.
We are Jodie Foster fans, and we were looking forward to this addition to her filmography. Sad to say, it was one of the worst films (in our opinion) we have seen. The writing did not hold together well; the characters were inconsistent and poorly developed, the casting did not work, and the acting was disappointing. It was a shock, as we do not expect to see this caliber of performance in a movie featuring Ms. Foster. The concept of the movie had good potential, and could have been quite a movie. A shame.
Save your money and wait for John Wick 3 next year. Bautista was terrible. He should have stuck to wrestling which he wasn't great at either. The other cast members were very uninspiring and gave little to know effort. Poor CGI and bad choreography.
Though it boasts an agreeably preposterous scenario and a weird mixed bag of physicalities and acting styles — from Foster and Sterling K. Brown to Jenny Slate and Dave Bautista — the movie is itself an eye-rolling performance of cyber-pulp tropes and pop-movie excesses that undercuts its spotty pleasures at nearly every turn.
