In an unknown location in Tibet, a young boy with mystical abilities, the Golden Child, receives badges of honor and demonstrates his power by reviving a dead bird, which is to become a constant companion. However, a band of villains led by a mysterious man breaks into the hidden temple, slaughters the monks and takes the boy away. Some time afterwards, a young woman named Kee Nang watches a Los Angeles TV show in which Chandler Jarrell, a social worker who is confronted by a young Asian woman who tells him that he is the Chosen One destined to save The Golden Child, the savior of all mankind, from the clutches of the evil demon Sardo Numspa, who won't rest until he sees to it that the boy is in his clutches. But Jarrell disbelieves the mysticism but he finds more and more evidence of demon worship as he starts investigating.
A private detective specializing in missing children is charged with the task of finding a special child who dark forces want to eliminate.
Spoilers herein.<br/><br/>Eddie Murphy has had one great role, &quot;Bowfinger.&quot; There and in fragments of other movies he&#39;s proven (to me) to be the best of the crop of black comedic actors since Richard Prior blew his mind. But his ability as an actor is very narrow; usually he is reduced to impressions. <br/><br/>It must be really hard for him to find vehicles. This one was a huge mistake. This character needs to be near the center of the reason for the story. He&#39;s a Jerry Lewis type actor, and needs the integration of his goofy character with a similar goofy story. The Golden Child is a very mediocre movie with a storyline that is actually pretty promising storyline but fails to be interesting because of a not so inspired cast.Edie Murphy did do a good enough job,but he was the only member of the cast that seemed like he actually liked this films script and was enthusiastic about being in this movie.I think that the story sounded really good and if they had made it a bit more serious and less comedy and got a more serious cast it could have been really interesting,I think that it was a bad decision making it a comedy.It is funny at times,but honestly not enough,and because of that I wouldn&#39;t really recommend the Golden Child to anyone. <br/><br/>A private eye who specializes in finding missing children is called in to track down the peace bringing Golden Child,who has been kidnapped by a Tibetan temple.
A strange hybrid of Far Eastern mysticism, treacly sentimentality, diluted reworkings of Eddie Murphy’s patented confrontation scenes across racial and cultural boundaries, and dragged-in ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) special effects monsters, film makes no sense on any level.
