Two young American men travel to Moscow to sell their social networking/party locating software. Whilst at a nightclub, they venture outside to see what is believed to be, an Aurora Borealis. However, the light separates and falls from the sky. They discover that the lights are aliens, using the power supply to hunt and kill humans.
The American software designers Sean and Ben travel to Moscow to sell their software to investors. However, their Swedish partner Skyler pulls a fast one on Sean and Ben, and they are out of the business. They go to a nightclub, where they meet American Natalie and Australian Anne and they flirt with the girls and see Skyler in the club. Out of the blue, the population is surprised by lights, which they mistake for natural phenomena. But soon, they learn that the lights are aliens invading Earth and using power supply to annihilate mankind. Sean, Ben, Natalie, Anne and Skyler hide in the kitchen and when they leave the place, they seek out survivors on the street. Are they the last people on Earth?
Even though this movie isn&#39;t &quot;something special&quot;, for me, a big fan of alien invasions and stuff like that, it wasn&#39;t bad. Finally something new. A fresh idea that could have been better.<br/><br/>Completely cold, dull and with a weak plot, its one of the movies which you&#39;ll watch and you won&#39;t care which character is going to die.<br/><br/>It was still exciting at the times and ending is great, it leaves space for a sequel which they probably won&#39;t make.<br/><br/>If you are a fan of alien invasions, weak plots and your standards for sci-fi movies are low then you might even enjoy it... Otherwise don&#39;t bother with it.
This is your typical &#39;world almost ended by invading aliens&#39; movie and it falls into all the same old traps.<br/><br/>One minute the aliens are unstoppable killing everything in their sight the next the heroes are knocking them down like skittles.<br/><br/>The characters are nicely fleshed out and you have concern for them but as the film gallops towards the climax the characters start acting stupidly so they can keep up with the mind numbingly moronic plot.<br/><br/>Setting Americans in Russia was a nice touch but the director could&#39;t resist tripping into dumb stereotypes (who fought the aliens off in France? perhaps bicycle riding, beret wearing gendarme dispatched them with strings of exploding onions.) But saying all that the characters are good, the aliens are mysterious and scary, and it is held together with a science of sorts.<br/><br/>The film is exciting in parts and quite tense. Any way compared to the likes of &#39;Battle Los Angels&#39; this movie watches like Apocalpse Now.
An alien invasion flick that evidently expects dramatic shots of a depopulated Red Square to make up for a flatlining screenplay and the absence of even a single compelling character.
