90% of Hollywood action movies today are entirely unrealistic and absolutely unbelievable. After a while, it becomes extremely tiring to watch the same ridiculous plot lines again and again. I've always loved Navy SEALs, but almost every movie that centered around them is unrealistic (especially "Navy SEALs" with Charlie Sheen!). Those that aren't based on old clichés have terrible plots, and it must be hilarious to be a SEAL and watch these horrible movies. Act of Valor is a refreshing action film that keeps you on the edge of your seat with great action sequences, true to life tactics, and a great plot. The whole thing is a long recruiting commercial for the Navy, but hey, I'll bet it works! Do yourself a favor, and add this to your watch list!
I was honored to see a screening of Act Of Valor following Navy SEALs on a typical stretch of their lives at home with their families, through actual missions in defense of my freedom. I understand these were not professional actors, but professional soldier's doing their job as they do everyday all around the world protecting us from real dangers that we as normal citizens never see or think about. They are truly the silent warriors we have heard so much about lately doing the things some people don't understand or agree with, but then again, it's those vocal people that these Silent Warriors serve protecting their rights to be vocal against such measures. I found the overall film to be riveting considering what these Silent Professionals deal with in the preparation of protecting us, and maintaining their families they leave behind. Who of us out here living our daily lives really think about what sacrifices each of these SEALS have to give up to be the Damn Few. The BANJO Brothers really captured an essence here - Damn Few of us ever think or understand what these men and their families have to give up to keep us from giving up our freedoms at home. WELL DONE!

Yes, they are. They are not named in the film's credits, however. Yes. Christo is based on Viktor Bout, a notorious Russian billionaire currently awaiting trial in the US for black market arms dealing. Like Christo he enjoyed an immensely lavish lifestyle, ran his own fleet of smuggling planes, skilfully circumvented international law and ruthlessly sold to the highest bidder. He also inspired Nicholas Cage's film Lord of War. Abu Shabal is based on Shamil Basayev, Chechen terrorist leader and Jihadi who amongst other atrocities was responsible for the 2004 Beslan School massacre. Like Shabal he advocated the indiscriminate mass killing of civilians using explosive vests and utilised the wives of his dead fighters as suicide bombers, nicknaming them "Black Widows". He was killed in 2006 by an explosion during an arms deal, possibly assassinated by the Russian secret service.
