Teen film is a film genre targeted at teenagers and young adults in which the plot is based upon the lives of teenagers and young adults, such as coming of age, first love, rebellion, conflict with parents, teen angst, and alienation and other topics / issues in the personal and professional lives of teenagers & young adults. Some of these films are targeted at adults as well as teenagers. Teen films have been a trope of the cinema industry that grew in popularity in the 1950s.[1][2] At this time, the film industry saw a greater market for teens with more disposable income and therefore more money to spend on leisure activities, largely going to films. Because of the boom in teen viewers, drive-in movie theaters were also very popular.[2] However, teen films have been produced since the dawn of the 20th century. Recently, online streaming services such as Netflix have created a resurgence in the "tween" and teenage-oriented film.[3]

"Not Another Teen Movie" shows no mercy as it skewers the conventions and clichés of the genre you hate to love. Join Janey Briggs (Chyler Leigh), an aspiring artist who is outcast by her classmates for wearing glasses, a ponytail and paint-covered overalls; and Jake Wyler (Chris Evans), the all-American football star who makes a foolish bet to turn Janey into a prom queen, in a risqué romp with an assortment of twisted takes on classic teen characters and teen movies.

I absolutely did not like Not Another Teen Movie, but even I have to give it props for how it absolutely disassembled everything in the genre up to the point of its creation, and absolutely set the tone for everything in the genre that came after it. That doesn't stop it from being crass in the worst possible way, or completely uncomfortable. Or completely unoriginal... although I guess you could argue that part is by necessity... Look, what I'm saying is, credit where credit's due. It's like, fuck Transformers, what a garbage bunch of films those are, but at the same time, it's hard to knock a billion dollar gross earning.
Hysterically funny, Not Another Teen Movie is a brilliant sendup of the teen genre. Parodying She's All That, American Pie, Cruel Intentions, Jawbreaker, Pretty in Pink, Bring It On, and many, many others, the film does a great job at covering the major hits of the '80s and '90s. And the satire is incredibly well-done, and uses the cliches and stereotypes of the genre in fun, clever ways. Starring Chyler Leigh, Chris Evans, Jaime Pressly, Mia Kirshner, Lacey Chabert, and Eric Christian
