In a major city, Robin the Boy Wonder leads his own team of superheroes, The Teen Titans. With his teammates, the dark Raven, the powerful Cyborg, the flighty alien princess Starfire and the flippant Beast Boy; the team battles the forces of evil where ever they appear like the enigmatic Slade, the diabolical Brother Blood or the malevolently cosmic Trigon.
A team of five teenaged superheroes save the world from many villains around their city while experiencing things normal teens face today.
I am a male college student. I am a comic book fan. I think of myself as a connoisseur of decent television. In 2003, I decided to watch the premiere episode of Teen Titans simply because I was a fan of the comic book series and Batman: TAS, Superman: TAS, Batman Beyond, and Justice League are some of the finest cartoons ever to grace a television. Apparently the producers of this show are NOT targeting people like me.

The show opens with an annoying JPop band singing a typical sugary JPop theme song; the lyrics are barely English and it's overly annoying, IMO. OK, so the theme song is geared toward teeny bopper girls...I can deal if the show is decent.

The artwork. Oh, the artwork...Amerime! I presume the producers wanted to grab a piece of the anime market and decided to emulate a crude manga/SD style. Overall it's pretty poor but not so bad that it's unwatchable.

The characters. Characters are the keystone to any show. These characters (called 'teens') are essentially 11-13 year old girls (yes, even the male characters are very feminine, sans maybe Robin) that have typical preteen problems. Oh, yeah, they fight bad guys on the side. This is where the producers decided this show was strictly for preteen girls (and some boys) and alienated most, if not all, potential adult followers.

Oh, don't forget all of the slapstick Super Deformed anime facial expressions.

2/10
Over ten years ago, Warner Brothers Animation produced a new Batman cartoon which was revolutionary. It was one of the first cartoons that showed all of the action that kids crave while delivering thought-provoking, meaningful stories. It was one of the first cartoons that didn't talk down to kids or underestimate their ability to comprehend a good plot. Over the years, that series branched off into Superman, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, and Justice League, all which held that tradition. Sadly, it seems to have stopped with the Teen Titans.

The anime-animation is also very different. I don't mind that, I like that a series isn't going to make itself tied down to what came before. But the story doesn't seem to try and appeal to anyone over the age of 13.

I know its odd, a grown man expecting to be entertained by a cartoon inteded for kids. But I feel that when you try to appeal to both, it gives off an extra spark of creativity that makes a story truly enjoyable. I hope this series accomplishes this some day.

PS - For all of you die - hard continuity freaks, this does fit into the Batman Animated Series continuity. Batman mentioned while guest starring in an episode of Static Shock that Robin went off to join the Titans.

However in the Teen Titans Go! Book Number 51- It is highly suggested that the girl in the academy truly is Terra- yet still leaving it up to the reader. Cartoon Network originally ordered 20 episodes for the fifth season of Teen Titans (intended to be the final season). The order was eventually scaled back to 13 episodes (the same as the previous four seasons). The plans for the seven, unproduced episodes included Slade returning and taking over the Brotherhood of Evil and setting up a possible continuation or rebranding of the series. a5c7b9f00b
