How can I engage with the Teen Commission as a member of the public?
We encourage all members of the public to engage with the Teen Commission by attending regular meetings and providing input during Oral Communications or during the public comment period of our agenda item discussions.
I have an idea or item I believe the Teen Commission should consider. What should I do?
We invite you to present your idea, comment, or other items during the Oral Communications portion typically held at the beginning of our meetings. During Oral Communications, members of the public have three-minutes to address the Commission on any matter not on the meeting agenda and within the jurisdiction of the Teen Commission. We also accept Written Communications which you may submit by emailing us at teencommission@cupertino.org up to one hour before the scheduled meeting and the Staff Liaison will read all written comments out loud during the meeting. Please note that all Oral and Written Communications will be part of the public record.
What are some projects the Teen Commission has worked on?
Throughout the years the Teen Commission has worked on the following programs:
*Please note that some of these programs may no longer be part of the Teen Commission work program or regular activities. Be sure to review our current work program to see what the Teen Commission is currently working on.
How can I nomintate a Youth-Led Organization?
The Cupertino Teen Commission would like to recognize local youth-led organizations making positive impacts in their community by highlighting them as part of a monthly social media campaign.
What is defined as a Youth-Led Organization (YLO)?
A Youth-Led Organization (YLO) is any organization which has been created by a Cupertino resident under the age of 18 that positively improves and supports residents of the Cupertino community. This may include student-run non-profit organization, school clubs, school organizations, or any group of students making positive impacts for the Cupertino community.
Cupertino residents may fill out and submit our YLO Nomination Form to nominate an organization which they believe has positively impacted the lives of members in the Cupertino community.
A Youth and Teen Engagement Subcommittee will review the nominations and make up to three recommendations to the full commission at a regular Teen Commission meeting. The Teen Commission will then vote from the top three submissions
Nominations will be due the 1st of the month two months before they are selected. This will allow time for the review, approval, and marketing process. For example, if you would like the organization you are nominating to be featured in July, you must submit your nomination by May 1st.
Nominations are valid for the duration of the current Teen Commission term, which runs from September 1 to August 30. Selected YLOs may be featured in one or all the following platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, and Twitter. The selected platforms are at the discretion of City staff.
For youth-led organizations to be eligible, they must meet the following criteria:
If you are nominating an organization, please be sure to inform the organization’s leadership of your intent to nominate. City staff reserves the right to modify the program or final decisions as necessary.
If you have any follow-up questions, please email the Teen Commission or Staff Liaison at teencommission@cupertino.org.
