The lid show made Saturday evening a treat. Not only for the great opening sound track by JOHNNY Rivers, but the creative exploits of the main character John Drake. At the time it followed the spy craze created by the 2 James Bond movies made just prior to the show's debut, Dr. No and From Russia With Love. What made this show different as well was several years after it went off the air on CBS, a spin off series was crest called "The Prisoner". The show gained rave reviews during a ST run. It picked on what happens to John Drake after he quits the British Secret Service.. Somewhat dated but still both shows are exciting TV fare.
John Drake is a special operative for M19, specialising in security assignments against any subversive element which threatened world peace.
When this first aired on local TV I was somewhat intimidated by John Drake's persona, his stand over tough guy routine, frequent violence and abetting the killing of some of the corrupt villains he investigates, by far worse villains. I was only five years old back then. Watching episodes now between relentless infotainment shows are sheer joy. The mostly well written stories are filled with intrigue, drama, violence and a sense of comic timing 007's writers would have done well to aspire to.

An athletic anti-hero, Drake puts his formidable martial skills to good use to subdue opponents that are silly enough to think they have the upper hand. As skilled at double dealing as fighting, he improvises to great effect to draw evidence from an array of mostly unwitting wives, girlfriends, accomplices, witnesses and bystanders. Even in a bad situation, Drake's confidence barely falters.

I am only me, but this show is still entertaining, and watching it, first time or repeat, will please most everyone.
I agree 100% with the previous comments. A nice departure for this series was that the hero wasn't forever slobbering over women - in fact Drake remained impervious to their charms - a sort of 1960s Sherlock Holmes - without an Irene Adler!. Only 2 episodes were made in colour, and these were to form part of the 1967 series, but after the two episodes were filmed PMcG wanted to drop the series and make 'The Prisoner' which is another story. It is probably because they are in black and white that domestic UK TV has not rebroadcast these stories, but the UK satellite channel Granada Plus has the rights to the ITC catalogue, which made Danger Man, but they seem reluctant to repeat B/W adventure series, though they do repeat B/W comedy shows like the earlier series of 'On The Buses' and 'Nearest and Dearest' etc. Perhaps if enough people contacted them they might think again?.

At least one videotape is available commercially of Danger Man, I have seen it recently in a store in London, as there are 4 episodes on one tape I assume that these are from the 1960 series, when the stories ran for 30 minutes. In the early days of Channel 4 (1982) they rebroadcast all 39 episodes of the original series twice a week.
