This one does.<br/><br/>It tries SO HARD to be cool, hip, trendy. In reality it's none of these. It's tired. It's old. It's unintentionally funny. It's moronic in every sense. It's dumbed-down to the lowest possible common denominator of the human species.<br/><br/>Can't come up with a witty line? Throw in a few profanities to liven up the script. Can't come up with a scene that will hold an audience's attention for more than 30 seconds? Shoot another person in the head or jab another person in the face with a pointy object -- and I'm a person who uses the "F word" on a daily basis and I like some good violence in a movie. But not in this one.<br/><br/>Laurence Fishburne shows his versatility again -- this time by playing a quiet, subtle guy who you aren't quite sure about and who likes to use looks instead of words to make his point. Oh...wait. I kept waiting for him to look at Ethan Hawke and say: "Stop trying to hit me and HIT ME!"<br/><br/>And can anyone tell me what the point of Drea de Matteo's character "Iris Ferry" is? I can't, you can't, and neither can the director.<br/><br/>Don't waste your money on this garbage. If I could give it 0/10 I would.
'Assault' is an extremely violent action movie.The good guys are the bad guys,and the bad guys are the good guys.Fishburne, is the centerpiece of the movie as the infamous, heartless hoodlum who does have a heart after all.Hawke,the policeman, redeems himself from his previous undercover mission gone awry.He was wallowing in self pity,and self blame over the deaths of his comrades in that previous failed assignment.Fishburnes displays loads of life wisdom though he has a heavy criminal history.He challenges Hawke to resurrect himself as a the team leader.Hawke comes out of his shell to lead the group against the army of rogue cops bent on breaking FISHBURNE out of jail.The situation was as desperate as the Alamo.The characters in the precinct building are very diverse and interesting.The final scenes are true to the movies story line.A trail of death,destruction, betrayal,surprises, all make the movie very interesting.Young kids and squeamish people should not see this film.For everyone else it is an excellent shoot 'em up, bang, bang, movie.
The 1976 John Carpenter original has been reworked enough to give the urban thriller a distinct flavor of its own, and stars Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne provide enough gravitas to keep things involving.
