Ett nyligen upphittat seriemanus av Mare Kandre. Punkserier visar den legendariska författaren Mare Kandre som begåvad, snabbt och nervöst registrerande serietecknare. Flera år före bokdebuten hade Mare Kandre gjort sig ett namn som sångare och låtskrivare i banden Kramp, Ruhr och Global Infantilists. Hon gick en termin på samma konstskola i London där Clashs basist Paul Simonon varit elev. Mare Kandre gjorde omslaget till Global Infantilists första skiva och syntes i fanzinevärlden som tecknare. ”Dumheten”, en svarthumoristisk berättelse om ett självmordsförsök, trycktes i fanzinet Kludd och ingår i Punkserier, vars huvudnummer är en lång, tidigare opublicerad serie från 1979. Här syns klubbmiljöer, gatuvåld och de hårda motsättningarna mellan punkare och skinheads i London i en dramatisk och väl kontrollerad berättelse.Dessutom ingår i Punkserier en ordlös, drömsk kortserie i färg och en mängd andra bilder i färg och svartvitt från samma tid, dokumentära fotografier och faksimil av fanzinesidor, skivomslag, affischer m m. Jonas Ellerström, som kände Kandre under hennes musikertid, har skrivit ett efterord som berättar historien om Mare Kandre, punkaren och serietecknare som blev författare och konstnär. Mare Kandre är en legend bland svenska författare. Hon debuterade 1984, 22 år gammal, och uppmärksammades snabbt som sin generations underbarn. Mare Kandre gav ut elva böcker – romaner, berättelser och prosadikter – fram till 2002. Tre år senare avled hon och lämnade ett tomrum i svensk litteratur som ingen kunnat fylla. Hennes roman Aliide, Aliide hamnade 2013 på tidskriften Ordfronts lista över ”böcker som skakat patriarkatet”.
