Frank Darrbo is a hapless fry cook. When his wife Sarah falls off the wagon and dumps him for Jacques, a drug dealer, Frank tries to get her back by reporting her kidnapped, grabbing her from Jacques' car, and wailing for her to return. After watching Christian TV and having a vision, he becomes a superhero to fight evil. He sews a costume, finds a weapon (a pipe wrench) and looks for crimes to stop. He has problems: his wrench inflicts real injury, so the cops want him for being a vigilante, his sense of boundaries is flawed, and Jacques' gang has guns. Libby, a clerk at a comic book store, becomes his sidekick, and it's time to go save Sarah. What chance do they have?

"Super" isn't a GREAT film, or even a very good film, but it's a lot of bang for the $2.5M is supposedly cost to make. In short, it's competent, edited well, acted at a reasonable level, and it holds your attention. I don't go to the theaters very often, but I could see paying $7.50 to see this. If you do go, be prepared to throw realism out the window (except when it comes to blood). That's not what this film is about. To call it a quirky character study would be to do it a disservice. But, and I'm saving the best for last, it has one scene that makes the entire movie worthwhile. It just so happens that I basically have an intense dislike for virtually all of Ellen Page's characters in recent films. One of the final scenes in "Super" makes up for all of that frustration, if you catch my drift....
Supposed to funny but is actually quite depressing. Depressing to see where Kevin Bacon, Nathen Fillion, Michael Rooker and even Liv Tyler's careers have ended. There is about 4 chuckles worth of laughs in this comedy and some good violence, but the stand out point to me is the "indie" crap that Juno (that wasn't that good anyway) has spawned, gets worse by the day. Ellen Page is quite honestly a pawn to make the film "sell" because of the aforementioned Juno, Inception and even Whip It she has become box office money but her "comedy" timing is terrible and the 2 (yes 2) scenes where she attempts to be sexy is quite frankly not sexy at all. The film is a strange one it goes for the comic book geek in us all, with a few names thrown in to entice the "non believers" but ends up disappointing
