Frank Darrbo is a hapless fry cook. When his wife Sarah falls off the wagon and dumps him for Jacques, a drug dealer, Frank tries to get her back by reporting her kidnapped, grabbing her from Jacques' car, and wailing for her to return. After watching Christian TV and having a vision, he becomes a superhero to fight evil. He sews a costume, finds a weapon (a pipe wrench) and looks for crimes to stop. He has problems: his wrench inflicts real injury, so the cops want him for being a vigilante, his sense of boundaries is flawed, and Jacques' gang has guns. Libby, a clerk at a comic book store, becomes his sidekick, and it's time to go save Sarah. What chance do they have?

I love Rainn Wilson, he&#39;s a fantastic actor, and now with Ellen Page by his side, amazing! <br/><br/>This is the kind of movie where you laugh at the craziest stuff you&#39;ve ever seen, and at the same time can feel a bit compassionate to the role who is played by Rainn. Ellen Page play the part as the sidekick to The Crimson Bolt, Boltie. She is full of energy all the time and nothing can stop her from having her fun. She is like the commercials for red bull, but it looks like she&#39;s always on red bull. And i was quite shocked when i saw that Andre Royo was starring in this movie, well known from The Wire, but he just had a small role.<br/><br/>A totally MUST SEE movie!
James Gunn&#39;s Super is without a doubt the best movie I have ever seen, it contains not only such hysterical comedy but thrilling action and emotional drama too. This movie is not going to be everyone&#39;s favorite movie or even liked by most because of the pure darkness and rawness of it, however if you can appreciate the dark humor in Super, you will truly enjoy it.<br/><br/>Rainn Wilson&#39;s performance as Frank Darrbo/The Crimson Bolt is truly outstanding and he really brings the movie to life. The movie starts with Rainn playing a miserable character who loses his wife to drug dealers and crime and he grows depressed. However as The Crimson Bolt, he finds his skin and is able to attempt to win back Sarah (Liv Tyler) and the comedy truly starts as he cracks people in the head with a wrench. One of the most hysterical scenes in the movie is when Frank attacks a couple who butt in line at a movie screening, there are many more hilarious scenes in Super featuring Frank and his wrench but the true star of Super is Ellen Pages&#39; Boltie.<br/><br/>Ellen Page as The Crimson Bolt&#39;s sidekick Boltie is truly amazing, and by far one of the most hilarious characters I have ever seen and Page&#39;s best role yet. Ellen Page plays Libby/Boltie who is an inappropriate young woman working in a comic book store, where she meets Frank (looking for comic books for research on his own superhero) and within the first five minutes of being on screen already had me laughing madly. She just disregards all social borders and that&#39;s what makes Super great, it doesn&#39;t abide by society&#39;s rules, it has no rules. Libby&#39;s character grows even more funny when she takes on the role as Boltie, where she breaks a man&#39;s legs with a car and slashes people open with claws like Wolverine, laughing manically whilst she does so. Boltie is an amazing character, the true psychopath superhero...<br/><br/>Kevin Bacon also gives an excellent performance as Jock (the drug dealer who stole Frank&#39;s wife) he brings such charisma and comedy to the movie. Only having a small role, he still manages to become one of the best characters in the movie and giving possibly one of the best roles in his career.<br/><br/>Super is a truly great movie and I recommend it for anyone who appreciates great comedy and likes the &quot;superhero without powers&quot; genre. However that being said, I don&#39;t think it is possible to relate this movie to Kick Ass or Defendor or The Green Hornet, as it is not entirely about a man becoming a superhero. It is more about a man&#39;s struggle and he happens to dress up like a superhero, however it is still worth a watch for the superhero aspect of it as it is rather hilarious. I have never gotten chills from a movie before, however in one of the final scenes of the movie, during Frank&#39;s monologue to Jock, I did get chills. This is how surprisingly good Super is, I wasn&#39;t expected it to be anywhere near as good as it was. I watched it because Rainn Wilson was in it, and being a fan of &quot;The Office&quot; I thought I&#39;d watch it to see what Dwight was up to. I was greeted by insane comedy, drama and action and the best movie I have ever seen. *Spoilers* After Boltie&#39;s death and when Frank looks at the picture of her on his &quot;perfect moments wall&quot; I felt sad and empty, and whilst I didn&#39;t take it so far as to cry, I definitely was deeply affected by this movie. This is my favorite movie and if you are looking for an exceptional movie to watch, this is the movie for you.
Waiting for Super to deliver the funny is an experience as long as the film itself.
