Frank Darrbo is a hapless fry cook. When his wife Sarah falls off the wagon and dumps him for Jacques, a drug dealer, Frank tries to get her back by reporting her kidnapped, grabbing her from Jacques' car, and wailing for her to return. After watching Christian TV and having a vision, he becomes a superhero to fight evil. He sews a costume, finds a weapon (a pipe wrench) and looks for crimes to stop. He has problems: his wrench inflicts real injury, so the cops want him for being a vigilante, his sense of boundaries is flawed, and Jacques' gang has guns. Libby, a clerk at a comic book store, becomes his sidekick, and it's time to go save Sarah. What chance do they have?

"Super" was one of those rare films that made me laugh, cry, sit on the edge of my seat and scream at the TV. I thought the whole "Real-Life- Super-Hero" trend had all but dried up, that is, until I saw this twisted little gem directed by James Gunn. Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, in my opinion give the performances of their careers. I've been a die- hard fan of "The Office" for the 4 or 5 years, following EVERYTHING that the cast has had to offer in starring roles. This is BY FAR the BEST starring role of any "Office" cast member. Not to mention, I've loved Ellen Page since I saw "Juno" and while I've come to expect the quick- wit of Ellen Page in her film roles, this was something TOTALLY unexpected. Ellen Page's performance was the best of hers I've seen. I would easily put this film in my top 5 of the past decade. It's not for everybody. It's ultra-violent, offensive and sometimes down-right uncomfortable to watch. If you can stomach TRUE emotion and the blurred line between right and wrong, this film is for you.
the great thing about it is that becoming a vigilante superhero is exactly the kind of thing Dwight would do. But aside from only seeing the main character as 'the guy from the office' this film was actually so much better than that. it's got all the good things that kick ass had, where the comedy goes with the actual dark nature of the film, but because some of it is actually pretty dark, it might not be for everyone. but I think anyone that liked Kick ass, this is probably the next best thing, better than kick ass 2 in my opinion. really don't like IMDb's 10 line min rule...
