5000 years after a great war of Gems, gemstone-like beings from a planet called Homeworld, we meet Steven, a half boy half gem who lives with the "Crystal Gems" Garnet, Amythest, and Pearl, who live on earth after they rebelled against Homeworld. The story follows Steven's adventures, whether he is fighting monsters or learning to control his own powers.
This series is set in the fictional Beach City, where ageless alien warriors, the Crystal Gems, live in an ancient beachside temple, protecting the world from evil. They project female humanoid forms from magical gemstones that are the core of their being. The Crystal Gems are Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl and Steven, a young half-human, half-Gem boy who inherited his gemstone from his mother, the Gems' former leader Rose Quartz. As Steven tries to figure out his powers, he spends his days with his human father Greg, his friend Connie, other people in Beach City, or the other Gems, whether to help them save the world or just to hang out. He explores the abilities passed down to him by his mother, which include fusion (the ability of Gems to merge their identities and bodies to form a new and more powerful personality).
Initially I thought this show was going to be horrible. The lineup it is in just gave it a bad stigma. It is showing alongside Teen Titans Go which is horrible, Clarence which again is horrible, and Gumball which is the least horrible but still garbage to watch. So automatically Steven Universe is grouped in with a bunch of garbage shows. But after watching a few episodes I found it quite enjoyable. While Steven is hard to bear as an adult Cartoon Network is a children's channel and Steven is meant to appeal to kids so i could see why he is like that. The show might seem like mindless nonsense at the beginning of any episode but it does show brief hints of moral lessons. The Crystal Gems are the real gems of the show. I mean they have awesome history and lore and they are basically superheroes. This show is currently one of the best shows in Cartoon Networks afternoon lineup.
I love this show. The animation,characters and story is great I think that it has even more potential like 11 out of 10. What confuses me is that the IMDb review is like 7.1/10 and yet the reviews to the episode is really positive like 8.5/10 I think IMDb should give it like 8.8/10. Although the show could go more epic like the episode "Ocean Gem", which is my favorite since not only is it funny but kinda deep I mean it raises questions like are their other crystal gems on other planets?, has the crystal gems trapped other innocents, Are the crystal gems treating some things cruelly?. Also one big step up could have maybe an intelligent corrupt gem not just a big raging monster one that has maybe a master plan that would be awesome(and yes Lapas was intelligent but she wasn't corrupt). Anyways great show but it could be more awesome infarct if it steps up its story it might remain as my favorite show ever I just hope Rebecca Sugars would step it up since its probably my 3rd favorite show at the moment and I have a feeling it'll be my favorite show in the future.
