The stable wormhole discovered by the Deep Space Nine crew is known to the Bajoran people as the Celestial Temple of their Prophets. Sisko, as discoverer of the wormhole and its inhabitants, is therefore the Emissary of Bajoran prophesy. The wormhole's other end is in the Gamma Quadrant, halfway around the galaxy from Bajor. That section of space is dominated by the malevolent Dominion. The Dominion is led by the Changelings, the race of shapeshifters to which Odo belongs. As of the beginning of the sixth season, Cardassia has joined the Dominion, and together they are waging war on the Federation and their Klingon allies. The war is quickly becoming the most costly war ever for the Federation, and the Deep Space Nine crew must fight to protect their way of life.
In the vicinity of the liberated planet of Bajor, the Federation space station Deep Space Nine guards the opening of a stable wormhole to the far side of the galaxy.
This is by far the best Star Trek series. TNG is boring, with no sense of plot continuation and is largely only worth watching to laugh at the mad, wittering Troi. Voyager is alright, but Kate Mulgrew needs to stop trying to be Katharine Hepburn.

This, on the other hand, has a huge over-arching stoy-line that continues from episode to episode (see Klingon war, Cardassian alliance with the Shapeshifters). In the Jem-Hadar it has some of the best villains invented for a long time.

The characters are fully developed with good interaction, and the script has some great touches of humour. The recurring characters, such as Garak, are just as developed as the main cast.

On top of all that, it has Nana Visitor enjoying herself no end playing Evil Kira when they go to the other dimension, and the superb Louise Fletcher as Kai Wynn.

Fantastic.
Have to say that the original series was so so. I loved Spock, but Kirk - not that epic in my humble opinion.

Then came the next generation with Picard and Data + all the others, and there was awesome stories and epic actors play.

Then came Deep Space 9. And I found myself having hard time and the only reason I keep watching was the fact that it's Star Trek + the whole story about the dominion. Sorry to say, but how Avery Brooks got one of the main roles in that series puzzles me deeply. He is, in my humble opinion, a poor excuse of an actor, who should have never been allowed the role.

Nana Visitor is also not even close to be convincing in her role either. As far as I am concerned the true characters bearing this series through is everyone but Avery Brooks and Nana Visitor. All time favorite is Andrew Robinson (Garak). But in all honesty all other actors is better and convincing besides the before mentioned two.

All in all - I will rate this series 7 out 10 as it does grow in story line and seeing past Nana Visitor and Avery Brooks acting - it is indeed a good series carried solely on the story line regarding the dominion and all other actors than the two before mentioned.

reminisce about events that took place between O'Brien and WILL Riker on board the Enterprise, as TOM Riker would have no knowledge of such events and would possibly be exposed. Giving the Chief the cold shoulder allowed Tom to go about his business without O'Brien uncovering who he really was. Unfortunately, they aren't. This applies to the DVD releases. Due to Britain's strict policy some episodes had to be cut in order to avoid a higher rating. Because of cost-efficiency, these masters were used for nearly all European DVD releases as well. To the Death (1996) and Sons and Daughters (1997) are affected. One can find a detailed comparison for 4.23 here and for 6.03 there. It takes place from the years 2369-2375 A.D. Yes; however, these earlier episodes will help to understand what's happening in DS9.

Worf's backstory and rivalry with Duras: Sins of the Father (1990), Reunion (1990), The Mind's Eye (1991), Redemption (1991) and Redemption II (1991).

Tribbles: The Trouble with Tribbles (1967)

Koloth: The Trouble with Tribbles (1967), Kor: Errand of Mercy (1967) and Kang: Day of the Dove (1968) (Dax's Klingon friends)

Tom Riker: Second Chances (1993)

Mirror universe: Mirror, Mirror (1967)

Battle of Wolf-359 and Jennifer Sisko's death: The Best of Both Worlds (1990) and The Best of Both Worlds: Part II (1990)

Cardassians: The Wounded (1991), Chain of Command: Part I (1992), Chain of Command: Part II (1992), The Chase (1993), Parallels (1993), Lower Decks (1994), Journey's End (1994), Preemptive Strike (1994)

Bajorans: Ensign Ro (1991), Disaster (1991), The Next Phase (1992), Preemptive Strike (1994)

Ferengi: The Last Outpost (1987), The Battle (1987), Peak Performance (1989), The Price (1989), The Perfect Mate (1992), Force of Nature (1993), Bloodlines (1994)

Chief O'Brien: The Wounded (1991) (hatred of Cardassians) Data's Day (1991) (wedding) Disaster (1991) (birth of Molly)

Additionally, there is the crossover episode Birthright, Part I (1993), where the Enterprise-D docks at Deep Space Nine, and Dr. Bashir assists the TNG crew. a5c7b9f00b
