The first Spy Kids was released when I was five years old. For years afterward, I loved everything to do with spies. I watched the two subsequent sequels, read the spin off book series, and fantasized about being a secret agent. Of course I outgrew this, but when I heard they were making a fourth movie, I was excited. However, the negative reviews set me off. Could it really be that bad? Well, a few days ago I decided to rent it on my Playstation and watch it with my little brother. A few minutes later, I shut off the movie, deleted it, and convinced my brother to choose a different film. That was the first time I've reacted this way to a movie. What was wrong with it? Let us count the ways: 1.) WAY too many puns. I counted about three puns in the three minutes we got into the film.<br/><br/>2.)The villain had an utterly pointless high voice, and acted too much like a children's villain (skipping, high-fiving frozen people? Really?) 3.) Probably the worst part of all (for parents, that is) is the amount of explicit material for a "family" film. Essentially, the first part of the film focuses on a pregnant woman who goes into labor in the middle of a fight. Then, right in the middle of confronting the villain, she gasps and says, "My water just broke!" That's the point where I shut off my film. Many parents will probably find this film to explicit for children.<br/><br/>Granted, I only got a few minutes into the film. But from what I saw, I could tell that this movie lacks everything that made the original movie great.
I've always loved Robert Rodriguez for making Grindhouse films, and very violent films and then making films that appeal to adults and children. Now if you go to this film thinking you're going to see the best film of the year, then don't go to see this film. If you go to this film knowing you're going to see a fun film then go and see it. This isn't as good as the other three films, but Robert Rodriguez has still made a good enough film. It's one that does appeal a lot to children, but it's still got the jokes in there for the adults. The whole Aroma-Scope thing is good, but some of the things all smelt the same and you have to scratch quite a bit to get the actual smell. The 3D in this was good, the scenes when there are action were good. Ricky Gervais as the dog is brilliant and he gets most of the laughs in the film, just from some of the lines he says. There's a lot of poop and fart jokes in there, but I guess they are to make the kids laugh. Not the best Spy Kids film yet, not as good as the first three, but still one that I did enjoy! And there's a hint of Spy Kids 5, but we will just have to wait and see what happens.
Nobody has much that's funny to say or cool to do. Even the spy gadgets are lame.

However, smell is not a dimension. It's a gimmick—something the studio did to "stand out" amongst all the 3D films. The film, however, is in 3D and was released on Blu-ray 3D. Yes. The app, in addition to offering official videos, wallpaper and games, has a spy tool that creates, sends and decodes secret messages. A text message entered into the app will be encoded and sent to a friend's phone, Facebook wall, Twitter, or email. Only those with the app will be able to decode the message. It might be possible to download the app from here (the specification being archived here), but most likely it slipped into disrepair and hasn't been available let alone updated for years. a5c7b9f00b
