The most famous (and infamous) band of the late 70s punk scene. Their rebellious image combined with a commercial sound (partly thanks to producer Chris Thomas) created some of the most memorable moments of the 70s - both musical and otherwise. Line-up: Johnny Rotten (John Lydon, b. January 31, 1956 - vocals), Steve Jones (b. September 3, 1955 - guitar), Glen Matlock (b. August 27, 1956 - bass) and Paul Cook (b. July 20, 1956 - drums). In February 1977, Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious (John Ritchie aka John Beverley, b. May 10, 1957). The band effectively split up after their 1978 US tour, although Jones and Cook continued to record under the name for another year or so.

The original line-up reformed in 1996 for a series of concert tours, and has played live shows off and on since then, and released live recordings. More Less

Is there a release of the Sex Pistols published (album, compilation etc...) where EVERY of their songs is included???
I was looking through wikipedia first, that was frustrating and I see here so many albums/compilations... I don't wanna waste my time.
So if anybody knows something, please let me know :-)
Cheers
When it came to expressing their frustrations through their music and style, most other punk bands were a thumbs down but the Sex Pistols were a middle finger. The passion is why people came then and still come now.
several unconnected individuals i talked to claimed to own a Friggin' In The Riggin Picture disc with a boat picture, it couldn't have been pressed any later than the mid 90's as thats when i first had this conversation.
has anyone else come across this?

also those wierd Thai 7"'s and the bootleg reissues of them need to be added but i don't have the information to do it myself
http://www.philjens.plus.com/pistols/pistols/counterfeit_miscellaneous_thai.htm

The Clash, The Damned, Stiff Little Fingers, 999 and The Stranglers were all streets ahead of the Sex Pistols, both musically and politically.
Essentially, the Sex Pistols were rubbish... right time, right place, but essentially crap.
Never Mind has a couple of decent tracks, but that is about it.
It was a Swindle.
Ever get the feeling that You've been cheated?
Every lyrical word by John pure heartfelt and honest , Steve Jones guitar genius
Hi, looking for a bit of help ?I have my way / no one is innocent 7"single cat number VS220. It's a mis press with "both sides" by Magazine instead of no one is innocent . I've tried looking online and i've been into a few record collectors and no one can tell me anything about it? I can find no info on it at all? anyone heard of this ? if so any ideas how much it's worth? thanks
Let's get one thing straight: the Sex Pistols did not "invent" Punk -- in fact, they were modeled after New York rockers the Heartbreakers. Piddling technicality aside, not since Elvis had a single act caused such a ruckus. Though their career was extremely short-lived (lasting from November 1976 to January 1978), their impact on rock 'n' roll -- and popular culture as a whole -- is absolutely immeasurable. By now the story of their birth is legend. Manager Malcolm McLaren owned a small boutique, original bassist Glenn Matlock (later replaced by Sid Vicious) was an employee. Guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and vocalist Johnny Rotten were regulars. Soon the simple coupling of Jones' aggressive guitar work and Rotten's total irreverence for authority had galvanized a growing legion of disgruntled, lower class youth and earned them an official ban across their home country. More than that (and at risk of aligning them with Situationism, Marcus-style), the Pistols were an assault on the norm by its outcasts, a powerful force that made kids around the world (and, paradoxically, the corporate music establishment) feel OK about rebellion. They may not have invented Punk rock, nor operated on the principles that would later define it, but there wouldn't have been a Punk rock movement without them.
At the end of the day the sex pistols achieved what they set out to achieve, by their own admission they were not talented musicians or lyrical geniuses but they never claimed to be, they used music as a vehicle to transport their political messages, sending a rallying cry to the left wing masses which was to be picked up later by the Clash.
They were undoubtedly one of the most controversial/influential bands of all time that has to be a fact, but there influence on bands wasn't as clear cut as people think. Having read Bernard Sumners autobiography he sums it up well, the pistols showed to many young, Karl Marx reading lefty that anyone could get on stage and shout anti-establishment, anti-everything lyrics into a microphone. This was the inspiration for Warsaw (who would later go on to form Joy Division) listen to their early material and the pistols influence is there. Non longer considered persona non grata at alot of Universities and clubs Lydon played at, the Pistols story is certainly unique, its a shame Lydon doesn't get the credit he deserves, I actually think he has a pretty decent voice, listen to Leftfield - Open up and Lydons voice sounds top drawer, today most people just associate him with the country life butter advert on TV!!
The world litterary changed after punk, but we talk about music: steve jones guitar sound is the most simple and at the meantime powerful you can hear in r'n'r history. You can compare this sound only with the one of kurt cobain. There's a connection never mind/nevermind that cannot be ignored
The most important rockband of the whole 20th century. Never Mind The Bollocks - the most important, and in my opinion "best" - album. The impact they made, musically, socially and culturally can not be overrated.
"Who cares about the music?" Spat Lydon, they did, he does, Malcolm... not so sure. Punk is a belief, an attitude, the sound IS important but it's the backing track for your own opinion, you make the noise, others dance to it.

The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band that formed in London in 1975. Although their initial career lasted just two and a half years, they are regarded as one of the most groundbreaking acts in the history of popular music. They were responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Their fashion and hairstyles have been credited as a significant influence on punk image, and they are often associated with anarchism within music.

The Sex Pistols originally comprised vocalist John Lydon (known at the time by his stage name "Johnny Rotten"), guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Matlock was replaced by Sid Vicious in early 1977. Under the management of Malcolm McLaren, the band attracted controversies that both captivated and appalled Britain. Through an obscenity-laced television interview in December 1976 and their May 1977 single "God Save the Queen", attacking Britons' social conformity and deference to the Crown, they precipitated the punk rock movement. It was banned not only by the BBC but also by nearly every independent radio station, making it the "most heavily censored record in British history".

The band's only album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols (1977)—a UK number one album—is a staple record of punk rock. In January 1978, at the end of their over-hyped and turbulent tour of the United States, Rotten announced the band's break-up. Over the next few months, the three remaining band members recorded songs for McLaren's film version of the Sex Pistols' story, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Vicious died of a heroin overdose in February 1979, following his arrest for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. Rotten, Jones, Cook and Matlock reunited for a highly successful concert tour in 1996. Further one-off performances and short tours followed over the next decade.

The Sex Pistols have been recognised as an influence on various genres, including grunge, indie, thrash metal and hip hop. In 2004, Rolling Stone placed them No. 58 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". On 24 February 2006, the Sex Pistols—the four original members plus Vicious—were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but they refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum "a piss stain".

Why are the Sex Pistols a funny band?
Why are the Sex Pistols a funny band?
The Pistols are one of the bands that caused thousands of kids to pick up instruments and play, that in its self is an undeniable realty. The fact that their music remains a fresh reminder of not just a moment but an overall feeling is testament. Hmm, Sex Pistols are a funny one for me.

Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols is the only studio album by English punk rock band the Sex Pistols, released on 28 October 1977 by Virgin Records in the UK and on 11 November 1977 by Warner Bros. in the US. The album has influenced many bands and musicians, and the industry in general. In particular, the album's raw energy, and Johnny Rotten's sneering delivery and "half-singing", are often considered game-changing. It is frequently listed as the most influential punk album, and one of the most important and best albums of all time.

The band's internal relationships were always volatile, and the lineup saw changes during the recording of the album. Original bass guitarist Glen Matlock left the band early in the recording process, and while he is credited as a co-writer on all but two of the tracks, he only performed bass on "Anarchy in the U.K.". Recording sessions continued with a new bass player, Sid Vicious, who is credited on two of the songs the band wrote after he joined. While Vicious's bass playing appeared on two tracks, his lack of skill on the instrument meant that many of the tracks were recorded with guitarist Steve Jones playing bass instead. Drummer Paul Cook and singer Johnny Rotten appear on every track. The various recording sessions were led alternately by Chris Thomas or Bill Price, and sometimes both together, but as the songs on the final albums often combined mixes from different sessions, or were poorly documented who was present in the recording booth at the time, each song is jointly credited to both producers.

By the time of its release, the Sex Pistols were already controversial, having sworn on live TV, been fired from two record labels, and been banned from playing live in some parts of Britain. The album title added to that controversy, with some people finding the word "bollocks" offensive. Many record stores refused to carry it and some record charts refused to list its title, showing just a blank space instead.

Due in part to its notoriety, and in spite of many sales bans at major retailers, the album debuted at number one on the UK Album Charts. It achieved advance orders of 125,000 copies after a week of its release and went gold only a few weeks later, on 17 November. It remained a best-seller for nearly a year, spending 48 weeks in the top 75. The album has also been certified platinum by the RIAA. It has seen several reissues, the latest in 2017.

In 1987, Rolling Stone magazine named the album the second best of the previous 20 years, behind only the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The same magazine ranked it number 73 on their list of 500 greatest albums of all time in 2020. In 2006, it was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 greatest albums ever.
