A young man with superhuman strength is incarcerated at a prison run by corrupt officials and seeks to use his martial arts to clean up the system.
With the privatization of all correctional facilities by the year 2001 AD, prisons have become faceless commercial enterprises, interested only in profit. Under those circumstances, an unfortunate young convict sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter, Riki-Oh Saiga, enters the prison's gates unaware that the place is governed by the vicious monocular Warden Dan and his pitiless lackeys, the dreadful Gang of Four. However, there is far more to Riki-Oh than meets the eye, as he is a devastating weapon of martial arts who defies corruption, thirsting to make all those who wronged him pay the price. And they will.
Ricky-O is a great movie. it makes us all happy because who doesn't love to see badly dubbed Kung-Fu movies with excessive gore? honestly, i am not being sarcastic, i don't know anyone except my mom that didn't like this movie. if you are of the deep intellectual sort, you will be able to understand much of the symbolism and social critisism that the film expresses. Watch Ricky-O and thank me later.
This is a cult movie, definitely...You can compare it to Braindead or Bad Taste mixed up with Bruce Lee movies. The gore is cartoonish, yet pretty fake, but it is SO funny. Okay, I hade some very high expectations for this movie (I bought it for 45 dollars before I had seen it) and I was satisfied. Maybe this film is even funnier when it is translated, because translations of Hong Kong flicks are always corny and the characters have these stupid little "chinese-like" voices. But anyways, *Spoilers warning* the film is about a young man, Riki-Oh, who is sent to prison after killing a drug dealer which he considers responsible of his girlfriend's death (she kills herself in a very stupid and funny way). Then Ricky discovers that a group of prisoners control and bully the rest of the men. But Ricky gets respect (he kicks a man who then falls the face on a nailed piece of wood, kills a sumo in the showers and rip his intestines out, kills another man by simply punching him through the chest, among others) and is considered godlike by the other prisoners. But the guards of the prison will try to eliminate the invincible Ricky. Okay...this is a stupid scenario...and you should see the movie...but the fights are so violent and exaggerated that you'll laugh out loud. The gore is very amateurish, except for some pretty nice shots of exploding heads, intestines ripping, and others. The actors are goofy, and funny. Ricky gets his arm's veins torn, his eyes damaged, gets long nails through his chest, is forced to hold razorblades in his mouth, and more, but he doesn't have a single scar after all that. Finally, I would say that this film is a very bad movie, if you are looking for quality, but as a funny, cult, violent, watch-with-your-friends movie, this is nearly perfect! 8/10
