Just in case you wanted some reassurance that your family isn't that messed-up, here's a story for you: A man was arrested for raping his mother. You heard that right. Raping his mother. But mom decided to forgive him, and then claimed the sex was consensual. So then the charges were changed to having sex with his mother, which, as I've established in a few stories, is illegal. But the 25-year-old Alabama man, Gary Dean Helms, Jr, who was 19 at the time that he and his mom reportedly had their relations, has now disappeared.
It all started back in 2006, when apparently Helms got into a fight with his brother over a girl. So he reportedly did the logical thing -- raped his mother. Apparently he waited until she was passed out from intoxication at their trailer park home. The mother, Vickie, initially said she woke up during the attack and tried to get away but he wouldn't stop until he was "finished." 
He was arrested but the mom refused to cooperate with the authorities. So they arrested her. Then she changed her story and said that the sex was consensual. But that didn't get the guy off the hook, because incest is still illegal. They wouldn't be the first parent/child pair to be informed of this.
Helms pled guilty and was to be sentenced to up to ten years in prison. But then he skipped his sentencing and is now on the lam.
Soooo ... what's goin' on in this family? Vickie Helms told a local reporter back when the incident first happened that she blames drugs. At the time, she said her son was high on "ice, crystal meth, pain pills, ecstasy, and alcohol." Vickie told a reporter:
Emotionally, it's driving me crazy half the time. I get to crying and then I'll stop and I get angry and then I'll get mad. I keep going that way ... I don't blame my son for this because I don't, he wasn't in his right mind when he done it. He don't need to be in prison for the rest of his life, he needs help. He needs to be in counseling for drugs.
Maybe prison is the "help" this guy needs. After all, if he'll rape his mom, who else will he rape? Well look -- the report says that Helms is ALSO accused of raping a 16-year-old and ALSO suspected in the sexual assault of a 4-year-old. This guy really, really needs to be taken off the streets. Let him get his counseling in prison.
I understand that the mom is very concerned for son, but there is such a thing as co-dependency.

Whether a mom-to-be needs to know if it's OK to tag along, need ideas, or if her friends and family need ideas on things she can participate in, we've compiled a list of options. It includes higher-energy activities like dancing and running. (P.S. Pregnant women can still run, according to research). There's also lower-impact activities that are still outdoors and fun that anyone, pregnant or not, will enjoy. We're talking fruit picking adventures to outdoor movie nights.
Pick a fun thing and get to enjoying summer! Sooner than later, the baby will be able to join in, too.
Hiking is a great activity for both pregnant and non-pregnant folks because it takes some effort, but it can be done at almost any pace. The views while doing it are a bonus.
Swimming is lauded as the safest exercise for most people who may be pregnant or have other disabilities as it's low impact. Luckily, lots of other people also enjoy swimming.
Throw it back with a drive-in or attend a movie-in-the-park or at a lake or pool. It's entertainment that can be enjoyed outdoors. It doesn't get much better than this!
Gardening may seem like work for some, but being around plants and in the sunshine seems exciting to us. Plus, it is a nice little workout to feel accomplished.

Geocaching is a smart option for those who like to explore. It can be done pregnant or not pregnant, but participants can choose the difficulty level.
Picnics are and will always be an awesome summer outdoor activity. There's relaxing and eating and for mom, mocktails.
Taking a long walk, or sitting out by the ocean or lake and just chatting can really boost a mood. All it takes is getting outside.
While roller-coasters aren't doable while pregnant, carnival games are an underrated activity. Play alone or with others and win cool prizes. Don't tell everyone: the best prize is the baby-to-be.
Rock on, mama. Outdoor concerts are everywhere during the summer. Some are more low-key than others, but pick one and get to listening!
Botanical gardens have an array of beautiful flowers and trees that aren't in bloom all year. Take advantage of the season with a casual stroll through it all.
Animal lovers, this one is perfect to keep everyone in the family engaged. All that is involved is some walking.
There's nothing truly unsafe about camping. Stay in a cabin or tent and relax surrounded by nature.
Baseball! An activity that can be both outside and done while sitting. Just bring a hat and wear sunscreen if it's a day game. Also, one word: tailgate.
As mentioned above, running is something that pregnant women can do unless their doctor tells them it isn't safe. If an all-out run isn't manageable, a jog will do.
Strawberry, blueberry, and raspberry seasons all fall during the summer. Make a day of it with friends or family and reap the sweet, sweet rewards later.
Dancing is also totally safe and fun for pregnant women to do. Find an outdoor class or just crank up the music at a picnic.
Our personal favorite activities are ones that involve food. Being able to go outside and eat? Even better. Look up any local food trucks, festivals, or farmers markets open for the summer.

A MOM who raped her son's friend at a sleepover has been jailed.
Su Hyon Dillon, 46, initiated sex with her son’s pal, aged 11, after going into his bedroom during the night.
According to court files, she went into the room before laying next to him and molesting him.
Dillon was then said to have forced him have sex with her in Puyallup, Washington state, US.
The boy told her “he was concerned he would get her pregnant and she said she had her tubes tied.”
Dillon was sentenced to ten years to life after pleading guilty to first and second degree child rapes.
But she will serve only a year behind bars, with the rest of the sentence suspended so she can get treatment, say court records.
She must also register as a sex offender.
Dillon’s victim was a friend of her son through the Emerald Ridge Lacrosse Club, where she was the “team mom,” investigators said.
Romps took place at her home and at hotels when the team played away between May 2014 and May 2015, said court files.
The lad told police Dillon kissed him on the lips at her house when he was just 10.
“He said one time on a ride home she pulled over and told him that what they were doing was a secret because she wanted their relationship to continue and become more serious,” the court papers said.
The boy later became suicidal and started cutting himself.
He started skipping school and was sent to live with his dad in Virginia, his mom told officers.
It was only then, during a counselling session, when he spoke about Dillon’s abuse and a probe was launched in 2019.
Dillon is said to have initially denied having sex with the boy before blaming him for initiating it, according to court documents.
But later she reportedly admitted “having problems in her marriage and that the victim made her feel good.” 
She did not have romantic feelings for the boy but “liked the attention.”
“This is somebody who has taken advantage of kids who are 10 and 11 years old,” Detective Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News Tribune.
“They’re not able to make those types of decisions at that age.
“This is disturbing as a parent because you are sending your kid off to a friend’s house with what appeared to be a parent or parents who also coached the team, upstanding in the community, only to have your son victimised.”
