I enjoyed this book so much despite a few flaws that normally would have me drop it in rating.It is a well balanced story of forbidden romance, slightly spooky ghosts, murder mystery, ...hell, it packs a lot of stuff in. The writing is intelligent and the dialog fits well with the setting; old money, formal feudal family stuffiness... almost transports you back in time. And the authors ability to comfortably tell a story in this style was impressive and believable. So the creativity, character development, and writing skill were all 5 star.Unlike other reviewers, i believe this does in fact fall under paranormal. No big vampires or werewolves or demons from hell. but there was a ghost. and the ghost in question wasnt a minimal plot point. She was the one that tied everything together: the curse, the feud... and it was ultimately the ghost that brought about all the answers. the ghost didnt make many appearances or speak to the living throughout the book. we rarely saw her. but her existence was definitely significant to the plot..The issue i would warn others about this book, is the way it was cut short in several areas.The love scenes were hot... you know the whole forbidden love thing will do that for you. but its true we only got to see one side of it and wanting more.The ending is definitely too abrupt. and although we know who did what and how it will turn out and who will get fired and arrested, and can assume the diamond will fix a lot of financial problems... it would be nice to read about it. i blame the publisher for this, as ive heard others complain that they (BSB) limit their authors. This book could easily have been double the length. I can almost picture the author having to go back and figure out which scenes to cut to meet the word limit. abrupt endings are my number one reason for dropping stars, so the fact that this one didnt frustrate me that much should mean something. I guess im hoping for a sequel. ;)
