Talk about swatting a fly with a nuclear bomb!And how many of these bumbling fools do you think it takes to screw in a light bulb, let alone carry out their shit-for-brains plan? Lets see. Theres Teague aka Hawk, Billy aka Falcon, Troy aka Eagle, Blake aka Owl, Toxtel aka Mellor, and Goss aka Ferris aka Huxley. And there are more baddies too. Jeffrey Layton, the crooked accountant, Yuell Faulkner, the hit man middleman, and Salazar Bandini, the cartel leader who sounds like he is about to apparate a white rabbit out of his top hat in Caesars Palace.On the good guys side, we have Cal, Creed, and Cate. Cal and Creed are both bad ass ex marines. Cate runs the B&B with Sherry while Sheila is her mom. Or is the other way around? Lets not forget her adorable twins Tucker and Tanner, and of course about a dozen more townsfolk. I really could not see the necessity for all these characters to put into motion a suspense plot that was really lame and kind of stagnant.It surprises me because, though I have had my ups and down with LH, I recognize that she is one of the most riveting, astute, humorous, and sexy writers of this genre. Why else would I keep running back to her after disappointments like these? Her creation of the hero Cal Harris was actually great. She didnt go for the bland Adonis of so many romance books nor is her heroine Cate a gorgeous femme fatale. These are ordinary folks whose beauty comes from within, as cliche as it sounds, but she made it work. I loved these two so it was all the more disappointing that their ultimate coming together was so anti-climactic, pardon the pun. I couldnt believe this was the same author who wrote the truck scene from Duncans Bride or the car wash scene from Mr. Perfect. Even when her plots are lame, LHs sex scenes almost always deliver. But this was a dud all around :( Quel dommage!
