This book has some great value. It is a wonderful reference tool to get a handful of new ideas from that can be fun to do with your kids or your friends. It will definitely raise your awareness of options for you to get involved.Why I didnt fully enjoy the book was because to me it felt like there was an agenda behind it. For example one thing you can do is put an ad in the newspaper or Craigslist for free stuff (that you would normally take to Goodwill or Salvation Army) and then essentially interview people until you find someone in need and you want to help them. I think this is a great idea anytime one gets involved to this level they are going to feel the rewards of donating your time, talents, and touch. But Goodwill is a wonderful non-profit dedicated to improving quality of life, building community, and helping the less fortunate.Whereas I feel like Boles really stresses other things that are not as well proven as Goodwill like fair-trade, which economically has not been proven to be a wise and viable alternative at this point. Or to stop global warming when scientists have not proven an optimal global temperature or if this is cyclical or change or solely human fault. I would have appreciated more time and ways to get involved with stopping human trafficking and slavery which are a huge deal even in the United States rather than having one of the 330 Ways to Make a Difference under the title Learn the Truth being You must watch An Inconvenient Truth (p. 168)I am all for social responsibility and Boles had some great reference sites to look at for recycling and charity checkers to make sure your time and energy is going to something worth while. But as she says in chapter 10 everyone has to use their own awareness on each organization and cause, I encourage readers to do the same with this book. Find something you can be passionate about, do your homework on it, and do your best to be a great philanthropist.
