Aside from a compass, this is about the only thing you need to hike the JMT. Brought a copy along for the ride back in 2004, and was overly pleased with the results. Never got lost; never had any other reference source; and never felt let down by the book.Provides both a South-to-North and North-to-South description of the trail along with a more than adequate description of mileage, points of interest, and spots to camp for the night. The back also provides plenty of information on where and how to resupply during the trek. Ive seen a complaint or two saying this doesnt provide enough information or useless if you plan on doing the trail, but Im wondering what more these people want. Maps? Check. Mileage and trail description? Check. Additional permit, resupply, and planning info? Check for all three. Lightweight and concise? Yep.In the end, this book isnt going to make up for inexperience on the trail. What it is, is a succinct and valuable companion for an experienced hiker looking to do the JMT. If thats you, buy with confidence.
