Its up to Lovita and Sue Jan to solve the murder, find some stolen money and hopefully get Monroe elected. Cards on the table, of the Christian books Ive read there arent too many that I want to talk about. Being totally honest I think there is a preachy undercurrent to a lot of them which is at best awkward and occasionally gets pretty damned close to offensive. There are a few I really enjoyed –– Joshua by J.F. Girzone, The Pendragon Cycle by Stephen R. Lawhead and perhaps The Tales of Narnia by C.S. Lewis –– but theyre the exception not the rule. So I wasnt expecting to love this book, but for some reason I did. I cant quite put my finger on it but the narrative style is different to most Cozy Mysteries Ive read. The usual tropes are absent, and both the characters and the story were quite wonderfully genuine. There were a few slightly awkward moments. The christian bachelorette party almost made me bang my head into the wall but the thing is, its pretty easy to forgive that stuff in this book. The author isnt pretending and I didnt feel like I was tricked into being preached at in this book at all, which I did feel earlier this year with Sabotaged by Dani Pettrey. So a fun book. This book was given to me as an audiobook by the narrator, Michelle Babb for review. I should say a little about the narration. The best narrators disappear into a book. You forget youre listening to a book. Michelle Babb mostly succeeds. She has that same beautiful drawl that Allison McLemore provides for Diana Rowlands White Trash Zombie books. Honestly I could listen to that voice reading the phone book...except for her male characterisations. Her men were good enough but not great. Her women were great.
