I liked the illustrations of the trees, and that the tree farm had different trees that could be used as Christmas trees, like the Scotch pine and the fir. I missed it at first and only noticed when I went back, but the trees had faces which were really cute. It gave them personality and made it more personal that they wanted to be picked and go home with someone. It immediately tugged at your heart strings that one of the tricks knew his days of being picked were done, and that his kids and grand kids had been picked, but now he was too big and tall. His crying made his pine needles fall. The cardinal and squirrel were so adorable, as was the tree with his furry brach nose and his bent over top, and weeping eyes. They told him he was so dear because his branches kept them safe and warm. A deer even said he gave her a nice bed to lay on. He wouldnt be consoled though because he wanted to be a special Christmas tree.While the tree slept the squirrel had to idea to decorate him and make him their special tree. He got the others to help in making the tree how special he was to them. They all gathered acorns, icicles, and berries. A crow brought over a star to put on top. The sun was so pretty rising over the Christmas tree farm, with its rays shining out. The tree was so nice with all the natural decorations and the bird feathers that dropped off the cardinal and Blue Jay. All of the different birds sang their songs for him. It was so nice when he woke up and said theyd made him a Christmas tree, beautiful for all to see, and they said he was more than just a Christmas tree because he was special every day. He was so pretty using one branch to hold the squirrel up, with birds on him and other animals gathered around. Thats when he realized being a good friend was more important, so from that Christmas on they decorated him.This was a great read, with such cute illustrations. I always like books with a lesson to learn or something inspirational, and this definitely had that. I enjoyed this from start to finish and would read it again. I think its a must-read holiday book for all kids who need to know whats really important and what matters in life.
