A great historical book about courage, loyalty, honor and chivalry. Its set in the 17th century during the first war between Denmark and Sweden (1657-1658). The main theme in the book is Danish resistance against the occupying German-Swedish army, which is a bit romanticized.On the other hand its a Danish book, so of course the story is told out of a Danish perspective. Swedes and Germans are almost all depicted as barbaric thieves and oppressors. Lets not forget who started the war, though.I realize that this might be a sensitive subject as there are no two countries in the world who have raged so much war with each other as Denmark and Sweden. So, its definitely a story that should be read with a discount. It makes for good reading thats for sure.I read the book in Russian, so the language wasnt as old and difficult as the original work is, I guess. Theres a good flow in the text, nothing takes too long, but theres still an attention to detail and especially different personalities.Great characters, intriguing story, a wonderful book.
