More on this later.I love their Grocery List Guide where healthful foods are listed for any shopping trip, whether it be your local supermarket, a Costco big-box store or Trader Joe’s. Some of the items overlap, but by following the authors’ guide, you can get better quality at the best prices. Example: large-size containers of coconut oil are best at Costco, as are the bulk nuts and organic diced tomatoes, pantry staples I’ve been buying for years. And Trader Joe’s carries a New Zealand grass-fed ground beef in their frozen food section. I use this item any time I need ground beef for, say, picadillo or meatballs. There’s a Going Out guide to help with more healthful choices in the area of general tips, take-out options and more. Still another useful section shows how to create spice blends for each type of meat.On to the menus. Several menu plans are listed with total prep-to-table time. Examples: the Italian Lunch features Veggie Lasagna, Caesar Salad, Garlic Breadsticks and a Lemon Blueberry Bundt Cake. It feeds 4 to 6 and can be on the table in under an hour!In the breakfast section I loved the recipe for CC’s Perfect Hash Browns. Growing up with hash browns served often, it was one item I gave up reluctantly. But Stacy and Matthew explain that new thinking is that the lowly white potato actually has more nutrients than the sweet potato alternative. Aha! At last I can enjoy my beloved hash browns without feeling guilty. In fact, not only is this one easier than parboiling the potatoes, when squeezed really dry, the taste and texture are better. Thank you CC!The Apple Cinnamon Crumb Cake (looks more like cinnamon buns) was so delicious it was hard to believe it wasn’t sinful. Very pleasing consistency and the coconut butter glaze looks just like the sugary kind. Another super easy and delicious recipe is the Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard (p. 202).Stacy and Matt provide you with the tools needed to switch to a Paleo diet without any effort at all. I appreciated the guides to long-term success, a stumbling block for many starting a new eating style. I recently had a new garage pantry installed and found their guide for stocking things very helpful.I also like that you can search the recipe index for quick-fix meals if you’re short on time. It seems Stacy and matt have thought of everything to help you on your Paleo journey to better health. I love their take on Spinach Artichoke Dip something I adore but have avoided because the packaged ones are unhealthy. This book should be on your cookbook shelf. Even if you’re no novice to Paleo and don’t have finicky kids, you’ll find yourself using Real Life Paleo daily.
