I wish we had stayed for much longer. The place was very quiet. The castle area was having a huge party the night we were there and we barely heard a sound. The Cottage house is located at Cala delle Murene, a small bathing bay, a few meters from the house, a perfect location in Giglio Porto. Close to everything, bars, restaurants, buses and boats. It was absolutely wonderful to fall asleep and wake up to the waves of the ocean that rolled into the beach. The furniture was of the older style, felt a bit like the time has stood still for a long time, but it was just charming. The bathrooms were modern and fresh with washing machine. The kitchen was a bit old-fashioned. Unfortunately I never met the hostess herself, Gigliola, but she was reachable on mobil. Although we lived near the harbor, it was quiet in the evenings. A fantastic island, our best beach was Le Caldane, a gem. Nice cottage with a very amazing sight. You can hear the waves and smell the sea. Giglio is a very smart and little island. It is located right by the sea in a quiet little corner of Giglio Porto. Just two minutes walk from ferry, local shops, bars and restaurants. The apartment itself is very special: You can see, hear and smell the sea from the apartment! Such a unique experience!!! Gigliola is a very intelligent host! We rented this old and very charming house for one week in the end of July. We went to see some of the other beaches on the island, but the little beach on our doorstep was our favourite. In the morning you could go for a swim before breakfast and have the bay all to yourself. You can feel history in the walls, when you enter the stone cottage. But even though it is an old house, everything is very clean and comfortable, with new mattresses, washing machine, refrigirator and a modern bathroom. When we arrived, it was extremely hot, and in the night the air was standing still. Even with all the windows open it was difficult to sleep. We talked to Gigliola, who told us to open some other windows at the back of the house, and we also bought a fan. After a few days, the temperature dropped, and the house became cooler. Walking distance from the ferry to the house is 3 min. The harbour is picturesque with lots of nice restaurants. We had breakfast in the house, but chose to have the other meals in the harbour. Gigliola left us many good recommendations, and information about the island. She is a very friendly and serviceminded host. We would love to come back to this beautiful place some day! The Castle, partly dating back to the 9th century, is wonderful and located at the best spot of the marvelous village Castello. I padroni di casa sono molto disponibili e gentili, ci hanno accolto con acqua e frutta fresca e ci hanno dato tutte le indicazioni necessarie per gestire al meglio la nostra permanenza. Perfetto come partenza per varie escursioni. Appartamentino appena dentro al castello, ottima posizione rispetto ai negozi alimentari. Ottimo per 2 persone che come noi lo abbiamo usato solo per cena e dormire. Host tempestivo e disponibilissimo anche se non presente sul posto. Forniture da rimodernare assolutamente. Ci sono anche 2 terrazzi uno comodo per lavare le cose al ritorno dal mare ed uno per fare colazione o mangiare. Noi siamo stati benissimo. Arredi sicuramente datati ma assolutamente funzionali. We had some beautiful days at the Giglio island. A friend of Roberto, Francesco, picked us up by the ferry and gave us a lift. The apartment is a basic holiday apartment with a big terrace and enough room for the three of us. It is located up hill and 10 mins walk from the harbor. Two minutes away there is a bus stop to get to the other side of the island. You will also find trails nearby for hiking. The apartment was beautiful with a great view and very near to the city centre - within 5 to 10 minutes by feet you reach the port with all the shops and restaurants. We had a wonderful stay at Villa Manzoni. The apartment was very clean and looked like it had been recently renovated. First and foremost is the extreme kindness, clarity, and helpfulness of Fabrizio, the host and Francesco, the check in support. They went above and beyond the call in terms of recommendations, explanations, directions and all manner of help before, during and after our trip. The house itself is a beautiful compound with several small apartments spread out on a cliff face. Certainly very different in the summertime, when all the apartments are full. But for our stay, since we were the only ones, it was peaceful and quiet. The location is ideal for those who wish to feel a little bit secluded without having to go far. A very short but someone treacherous drive from the main port takes you to this special spot. Comfy beds, eclectic decorations, and perfectly well functioning amenities make this a highly recommended Base from which to enjoy the island.. There are even several trailheads that start directly from the house gates. Great kitchen, and common areas. Spectacular balconies and views.. No complaints and would definitely go back! It is set on the hillside as you enter town. The main bedroom is large and airy, the living room couch is sufficient for one adult, but for two may be too small. The kitchenette is small, but adequately equipped; we mainly made our meals here rather than going out - and we always ate on the terrace. The town is small so everything is nearby, including a wonderful bakery, a little health food store, and a couple of grocery stores open on Sunday! Great swimming beach with coarse-grained sand. The town seems especially suited for families. You may want to be aware of the fact that there are stairs to climb to the apartment, but in this town you have to be high up to have a view. One nice outing is to take the bus up to Castello 15 mins before sunset and then walk down on the old mule track with the sunset over the ocean before you all the way. Communication with the host and coordination was easy. Lovely apartment, great location, exactly as advertised. We had a great two weeks at this place. The locations is amazing. Close to the beach and the Porto where you can take boat taxis to other beaches on the island. You can also swim from the beautiful rocks a few steps from the house. We had a one year old with us and we spent most of our time at the house on the huge terrace overlooking the ocean. We even saw dolphins jumping at sunset on our last night. We had dinner in every night and the kitchen worked very well. Hope to stay again! The Villa Rocce is a wonderful outpost up a hidden trail on the gorgeous Island of Giglio, a nature reserve in the Tuscan archipelago. The house house was better then in pictures. I came with my friends and my 2years old son,and found everything I needed for him. The rooms are big and also the kitchen is really big.
