Dr. Benton Quest is a research scientist who is frequently called upon for missions that require his scientific and technical expertise. He is usually accompanied by his son Jonny, his tutor/bodyguard Race Bannon, their bulldog with the distinctive mask-like eye markings named Bandit, and Hadji, an Indian orphan who has special abilities of his own. Together, they investigate mysteries, perform rescues and battle nefarious villains around the world, most notably Dr. Zin.

As Sawyer said..this was the best animated series of the time...So I am still asking "When are we going to get a Live Action version of this gem of creativity and adventure??" I don't care who's going to be cast as wonder woman, etc. I want to know who is going to play Johnny!!!! Who is going to play Race and Hadji? Could be a break through role for someone. There is a lot of casting opportunities for a project like this to do something different and bring some new faces to the screen as well. If I had the big bucks...THIS is the property I would be investing in (see below)! With today's CGI those hover crafts and other cool gadgets could look pretty realistic. And animal casting has gone so much further since the days of Frank Inn (Benji) that could be cool. (No scooby doo please.) Film or TV, I don't have a preference, but if you do, let us know...... So how about it people? A write-in campaign to Fox or Universal requesting a Live Action production? (old school method) Or maybe someone knows a producer who is interested in initiating a KickStarter campaign and we'll just fund it ourselves!(new school method). That's right. That's what the title says. I had the Jonny Quest record. What? You ask. I had the Jonny Quest record! Really, I did. It was called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was about Jonny, Race, Dr. Quest, and Bandit, sorry, Hadji, you weren't in it, trying to locate a lost submarine. One line always stuck in my mind: "You see, Jonny," Dr. Quest said. "The ocean floor isn't all flat. There are high mountains and deep canyons on the bottom of the ocean. Man has explored the heavens and is ready to rocket to Mars. But he still knows nothing about the deep, dark, mysterious world at the bottom of the sea." Prophetic. Ain't it? Now to the cartoon. Jonny Quest, in the '60s cartoon, anyway, is a prepubescent boy of about 10 or 11. He lives in the Florida Keys with his father, Dr. Benton C. Quest, who was voiced by both Don Messick, Space Ghost, Shazzan, Dino Boy, and Herculoids, and John Stephenson. Hadji's an Indian orphan. (No, NOT NATIVE AMERICAN!) I'm referring to the country. He could be a Pakastani. The show's not clear. Anyway, Jonny, Hadji, Race, Dr. Quest, and Bandit, go on several adventures. Race Bannon is Jonny's bodyguard. His father does work for a top secret government organization. In the '60s series, we don't know what happened to Jonny's mother or if Race Bannon had a family. That's not resolved until later. See Jonny Quest and Golden Mask for the resolution of those plot lines. The Quests and Race take on Dr. Zin, mentioned by another reviewer, Hardin, and smugglers disguised as lumberjacks. Later in the series, they met Hard Rock, who was from an underground city of stone, and he was with them until the end of series. One more thing, the '90s series was good, but the original's better.

Jonny's mom first appears in the comic-book story "Enter Race Bannon" in JONNY QUEST #2 (Comico, July 1986). The former Judith Waterston dies in Paris from an incurable disease when Jonny is still a young boy. Dr. Benton Quest is so devastated by her death that agent Roger "Race" Bannon is assigned to be Jonny's bodyguard. The made-for-cable animated film Jonny's Golden Quest (1993) told a different story about Jonny's mother, as explained in the "Classic Jonny Quest FAQ": Now instead of an incurable disease, or even letting the matter simply remain a mystery, the death of Jonny's mother involved Dr. Zin. This revamping of the JQ world was not well received by many JQ fans. Also, her identity was changed from Judith Waterston to Rachel Wildey (the Wildey surname being used as a tribute to original series architect Doug Wildey). This has now become the official version of what happened and is reported as such in such reference material as the Jonny Quest Character Reference Guide, published by H-B in 1995.
