As sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer Kakihara searches for his missing boss he comes across Ichi, a repressed and psychotic killer who may be able to inflict levels of pain that Kakihara has only dreamed of.
Yakuza boss Anjo disappears with three hundred million yen. His loyal gang members, lead by the masochist Kakihara, start a search, but their aggressive and gory methods worry the other yakuza gangs. Kakiharas most frightening counterpart is the mysterious Ichi, a psychopathic killer with a dark childhood secret, who is controlled by a retired cop.
This is the worst movie I have ever seen! And that's an achievement because I have ridiculously low standards when it comes to movies. For example I'm in love with Epic movie. But this movie has no good qualities whatsoever! The dialog is bland, the violence is disappointing (that's not violence, that's a kid's show), the plot is pointless and plain crap! But the worst part is the acting. Or I don't know if you can really call that acting....it was more like a couple of Asian people screaming and being annoying. Nothing about this movie is good. It's an absolutely worthless piece of crap movie that should be erased from the very existence. I actually intended to give it 0/10 but IMDb wouldn't let me.
This wasn&#39;t a bad film. Not even close. However, it was much anticipated. I&#39;ve come across this film on many Amazon lists in the same category of so called &quot;disturbing&quot; films that are not to miss.<br/><br/>When I watched the film, it was quite entertaining. The acting was excellent. For its genre it was actually pretty good. However it doesn&#39;t live up to the hype. It&#39;s basically a Woo movie with a little more graphic violence. One would be better off watching The Killer or Hard Boiled. Each contain comparable violence, although a little softer on the graphic side. Some of the violence in the movie isn&#39;t even realistic.<br/><br/>To be perfectly honest, screw it, I&#39;m a little tipsy. This movie doesn&#39;t deserve to share the same &quot;can&#39;t miss&quot; movie lists with Eraserhead and other classics. Don&#39;t believe the hype. Watch &quot;Kung Fu Hustle&quot; instead.<br/><br/>Disappointing, yet enertaining.
Unhinged even for Takashi Miike, Ichi the Killer suggests a bloody and ejaculate-stained Rorschach inkblot, reveling in ultraviolence that can be interpreted to flatter any adventurous audience's sensibilities.
Several scenes containing violence against women had to be cut for the British release. In the US, the film was released in a R-Rated version, which was cut by 11 minutes, as well as in an uncut unrated version. The R-Rated has been cut by roughly the same amount of time as the German version. Unlike the German version, however, they did not cut whole sections of the movie in the R-Rated. More scenes with sexual content are missing, though. For example, the film title, forming from a pool of sperm, was removed completely.<br/><br/>In HongKong the movie was released in a cut version only even though it received the highest rating: CAT III.
