Making a rare foray into rock 'em, sock 'em action territory, Hawke plays a CIA agent who sacrifices everything for his employers, including his family and, ultimately, his own life. No sooner has he shuffled off this mortal coil, though, than he finds himself mysteriously resurrected for one last mission that's timed to last exactly 24 hours. Once the countdown clock embedded in his arm reaches zero, he'll once again nod off into an eternal slumber if he hasn't completed his task. Before that happens, expect him to wreak bloody havoc on both his targets and his former CIA minders.
An assassin seeks redemption after being given a second chance at life.
The reviews comparing 24 Hours To Live to action classics like John Wick and Taken are not doing this film any favors. 24's action scenes lack the spark, inventiveness, and even just length of the top action scenes you'd see in stuff like John Wick or even Jackie Chan's The Foreigner. Aside from one very short car chase / shootout that has some cool shots and viciousness to it, all of the action scenes are run-of-the-mill things done about as well as you'd see in an expensive TV show. It's competent, but nothing memorable.

That also describes the rest of the film. Ethan Hawke and a few of the actors do their best, but they don't have a lot to work with. It's the same old hoary plot about an assassin trying to atone for his sins and 24 doesn't do anything new or interesting with it.

Overall, 24 Hours To Live is competent enough to stand above the true garbage that a late era Steven Seagal might make, but it's nowhere near the top action films either. It's a middle of the road 5/10. Meh.
Keith Zera (Tyrone Keogh) is a contractor black ops operator who has witnessed horrific crimes. He is in South Africa in the custody of Interpol agent Lin (Qing Xu) on his way to give his statement. Red Mountain company wants him dead and entices Travis Conrad (Ethan Hawke) to assassinate the whistle blower. Events happen where Travis gets a device placed in him that gives him 24 hours to live and redeem his life.

Once the device was in Travis, you knew exactly where the story goes, if not before. This is a so-so action flick. One decent car chase. No roof top jumping or karate kicks or knife fighting. Just gun play.

Guide: F-word. Blurred rear shower nudity. Implied sex.
Throughout the film, you can see Hawke trying to bring resonance and truth to a movie that is plotted like a “Crank” sequel and has dialogue that sounds like it was written by a teenage boy. Watching the actor fight against the deep flaws of the film he’s in is almost more interesting than the plot itself. At least it’s more entertaining.
