Ik las dit boek in het kader van het Slow Book Festival waarbij je als lezer de kans had om een Vlaamse schrijver te ontmoeten. Een soort leesclub, maar dan met de schrijver zГ©lf als moderator. Een aparte ervaring!Het boek sprak me aan door het einde van de wereld verhaal. Ik was natuurlijk de laatste die doorhad dat het zich in Leuven afspeelde; mijn eigen stad nota bene. (Hoewel ik bij de beschrijving van het lelijke bankgebouw wel meteen aan het beruchte beton-glas-fontein-complex van de toenmalige Cera moest denken omdat dit sowieso het lelijkste bankgebouw ter wereld is.)De enige vraag die ik Six had kunnen stellen maar wat ik uiteraard niet durfde door mijn Eeuwige Verlegenheid, was: hoe komt het dat zij de enige vier zijn die overblijven in de half ondergelopen stad? Waar is de rest naartoe - het water ingelopen? Waaraan zijn de nonnen gestorven? Wat is er echt te zien in de slaapkamers van het maquettehuis? (Hoewel het antwoord op die laatste vraag moet afhangen van je fantasie, sowieso.)Hoewel de bedoeling was om het boek langzaam te lezen, ben ik er doorheen gevlogen. Het verhaal sleepte me mee, waardoor ik niet genoeg stil kon staan bij de dikwijls mooie zinnen. Reden te meer om het over een tijdje nog eens te lezen, en dan trager.
