This is not the first translation of the Quran Ive read, but its certainly the least well done - and thats saying something. Most translations of the Quran fall far short from any sense of accuracy; the reasons why deserve more space than Im willing to give here. My problems with this translation/format include: * it doesnt seem to follow the traditional order of suras, all of the time; indeed, it lacks sura numbers, making it difficult to compare (Im working off of the Kindle version)* the glossary seems haphazard and trivial* it deserves more than a translation: it requires some notes; not necessarily commentary, but some amount of annotationThis last point deserves some more comment. The Quran has never been understood in the same way that some Christian Protestants understand the Bible, namely, as not needing explanation. And so to just sit down and read the Quran without any context or explanation is fallacious (as is, frankly, the Bible; sola scriptura does not mean what most modern Protestants think it means; but again, thats another, lengthier topic). Maybe this was a good translation, but without any annotations its hard to measure, even if one has some working knowledge of the Quran.
