A mediocre, almost shoddy offering from this prolific author. I believe that this is her fourth or fifth bk published this year.H/h first meet when they are 18/16. He is the housekeepers son and mows the lawn. They do some heavy necking, after which, her father gets his henchmen to beat the H up in an alley and leave him for dead. Then the H works to become a gazillionaire in the 12 years since then and blackmails the h into marriage. Natch.Throughout the story, the H/h never got over each other WHEN THEY WERE TEENAGERS TWELVE YEARS AGO and it comes across more as Arrested Development rather than First Love, Last Love. The fact that this novel had ENDLESS pages of interior monologue where BOTH the H/h change their minds on the turn of a dime just reinforced their immaturity and my stupor reading this.The book is set in Boston with a trip to Argentina somewhere in the middle but there was no sense of placement. The author had the H/h do a tango while there but unfortunately I had already Bride in a Gilded Cage and Abby Green did the tango better. Frankly, I would prefer if Harlequin writers would avoid the cliche of tango-ing in Argentina altogether. Surely, there must be something else? Argentina is a large country.This was my third Yates. I thought A Mistake, A Prince and A Pregnancy was a steady read, did not finish The Inherited Bride, and could barely finish this one. I dont think the author brings enough interest for me to continue reading her. Not an Author Fail but not a Recommend either. Grade: C/C-
