No amount of words or clever gifs can describe the frustration Ive had with this comic book continuation of one of my favorite shows: Avatar: The Last Airbender. I have never been one to believe that a show being geared towards older children (7+) should be above criticism and good writing. A:TLA had that in bundles and so it is disappointing to see that this mini-series did not continue that. The big problem is that it is handling a very complex issue in a very narrow viewpoint that is very hard for me to swallow. Colonization is already a complicated subject for me, but I understand the complexity of the issue, so when I heard it was being tackled in this book series I thought hey that could be really good, lets see what happens. Oy Vey. The very idea that the Fire Nation or its citizens should act up at this point is just beyond me. I get that for the people who have lived in the colonies this is their home now, but do they realized that they have been participating in the slow elimination of the Earth Kingdom. Unless they were actively against the fact that their government want to burn the Earth Kingdom to the ground they have no grounds to say they should say. Sorry. No. It sucks for them, it really does, but they have been at war for these people for 100 years. The EK was never full conquered, the FN lost its time for you guys to leave. If you want to stay relinquish your loyalties to the FN and be done with it. But you can not be in stolen land, that you never even fully controlled, after losing a war and want to call the shots. Its not about not wanting to mix cultures or saying that people from other nations shouldnt marry, but when one of those nations decides to go to war with the other 3 nations and commit: genocide and attempt ethnic cleansing for everyone not Fire Nation, I think its fair to remove them from the territories they have now lost.On a positive, the art is very nice.
