In a distant and mystical land, wimpy Prince Adam leads the life of royalty. Unknown to all but a few close friends/allies, Prince Adam is actually a hero, the mighty He-Man. Together with his friends, (such as Teela; her father, a man-at-arms; mysterious Orko and his mighty friend/horse substitute Battle Cat), He-Man battles the evil Skeletor and his minions for control of the world, and, more importantly, for the control, power and "honor of Greyskull," the mysterious castle from which He-Man derives his powers.
The most powerful man in the universe, He-Man, goes against the evil forces of Skeletor to save the planet Eternia and to protect the secrets of Castle Grayskull.
Masters of the Universe, one of a variety of cartoon series designed to promote an action figure or toy line, was one of progenitors of a long line of fantasy on TV. Hercules, Xena, ThunderCats, and Dungeons and Dragons all owe a debt to this wondrous array of adventures of He-Man and his furry underwear clothed cohorts. Not especially well-animated or acted, Masters of the Universe was ho-hum as 80s cartoons go, but its stories and fantastic settings saved it every time.
Like "The Transformers" and "G.I. Joe", "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" was one of the best cartoons of the 1980s. The show was a great afternoon adventure story of Prince Adam on the far off world of Eternia. He battled the evil forces of a cruel and evil genius Skeletor. But Adam had to keep his real identity secret, so by the power of Grayskull (the castle He-Man protects for its secrets inside) Adam is transformed into He-Man, and his cat Kringer becomes Battle Kat. It was a great show, had an awesome toy line including the Castle Grayskull playset. There were so many cool characters, like Mer-Man, Beast-Man, Man-at-Arms, Ram-Man, and the ever darkly cool Cobra Khan. If you can find episodes of this show, I recommend you give them a whirl. It was one cool show then, and it is one cool memory I have today.
