Cato geeft tips over hoe en wanneer je moet zaaien, oogsten, hoe je olie uit olijven en wijn uit druiven maakt, hoe je de benodigde apparaten hiertoe in elkaar zet, hoe je je personeel en slaven behandelt, hoe je de oogst uitbesteedt, waar je het beste bepaalde zaken koopt, hoe je ziekten en wormen behandelt enz. enz. Wanneer we ook nog hebben geleerd hoe je ham pekelt, houdt het boekje abrupt op.
