Prototyping

Prototyping means writing a lot of small prototypes, which express a part of a future game. For example, you have an idea of a perfect control for character. Pre-production

Closed Beta-testing

In beta-testing, game is ready, but with bugs and not all content. On beta-testing checks all assumptions of game design. Game is being polishing.

Soft launch its like open beta-test, but in context of phones, players can dont know what game they are playing. In mobile development is popular practice of releases games in small markets with another name. For example, in New Zeland with another icons. Game is given in hands of real players, but in variant of fail, reputation of your company is not broken. On this phase UI is being changing, makes A/B testing and in generaly trying to estimate results of normal release. If predictions are sad, game could be not released, for not to wasting money in PR.
