FreeСХІД.ua#10 Animation for the creator of Tesla, cemetery services a la Donetsk, and 30 stories on what matters

Donetsk Press Club April 04, 2018

Hello, dear friends! As we were working on our 10th issue true spring finally came to Ukraine. So now, as traditional holidays approaching, it is time for travel and meeting friends and family. Meanwhile #FreeСХІД continues to check Donbas pulse at both sides of separation line. This issue covers quite uncommon topics! We will tell you about cemetery business in Donetsk, resettles from Gorlivka who make animation for Elon Mask, and discuss the question whether you lose your future pension privileges if you have LNR-DNR stamp in your documents.

We are looking forward to the Easter, Renewal Sunday, and the May Day celebrations. Pretty soon multiple resettlers will arrive at separation line checkpoints to get to their native Lugansk and Donetsk. They want not only to meet their family, but also clean up the grave sites. But is there enough time to do everything that is needed to be done in a single trip?

We asked our reporter in Donetsk to make a brief overview of cemetery service companies in Donetsk, and found out that there is a number of such services.

Companies that provide grave site cleaning and care services existed long before 2014. Upon the break of the war demand for such services went up, as many city dwellers had to relocate and not all of them are able to come back for the Renewal Sunday. Others just won’t be allowed through checkpoint.

So we decided to find out how much it costs to get your grave site taken care of while you are away. It is easy to find those who will do the job in social networks. Details can be discussed off-site with just a picture of the grave. However, your relative or friend will still have to take workers to the specific grave site.

Average price:

Single grave cleaning – UAH200.
Double grave cleaning – UAH350.
Triple grave cleaning – UAH450.
Cleaning gravesite of four or more people – UAH500.
Painting job prices start at UAH400.

Other services are available as well: weeding, tree stump removal, hedge cutting, fence and table painting, flowers delivery.

How has the attitude to internally displaced persons (IDPs) changed in Donetsk and Lugansk regions?

“In 2018, compared to previous years, the number of people ready to allow IDPs in their inner circle (as family members or friends) reduced significantly, – note specialists of research facility SPHERA. – At the same time, the number of people ready to accept IDPs as residents of their region increased. Similar trend, though less pronounced, also takes place in Lugansk region”.

From now on, the internally displaced persons and residents of frontline territories are able to order ID at any designated public office.  The parliament has adopted the bill #4023, on first reading, granting such right.

Is it possible for the pension fund of Ukraine to authorize employment record with a stamp of a faction of so-called Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics? It turns out that such possibility exists.

The Ministry of Temporarily Occupied Territories claims that USD 26 mln has already been spent on mine-clearing activities in Donbas. To actually complete demining much more money is needed – it might take billions of dollars to complete clearing.

Curious story happened this week. Olexander Khodakovsky, the commander of pro-Russian Vostok Battalion took a ride from the center of Donetsk to frontline checkpoints. The checkpoints turned out to be abandoned by patrol and totally unguarded.

The President’s aide Alexander Paskhaver considers that it will take more than 10 years and USD 50 billions to restore Donbas infrastructure after reintegration.

Resettles from Gorlivka opened an animation studio in Kyiv and are now making animated visuals for Ilon Masks’s engineers! They also teach animation to anyone willing to master the skills.

The founders of “Pause to play” studio Nikita Kravtsov and Igor Bessonov confirm that they learned how to create animated visuals through English-language tutorials on the internet. Profit from the first order provided enough money to rent a tiny 20 square meters office. And the second order allowed the company to buy new computers.

«People think that creating animation is extremely complicated. We would like to bust this myth».

How do they make it? One second of "Pause to Play" animated visual costs $ 15-20. Optimal duration of a visual is 1 minute. A single project takes about one month to make. It includes script writing and approving, animating characters, and making visual with professional sound.
