A student tries to fix a problem he accidentally caused in OZ, a digital world, while pretending to be the fiancé of his friend at her grandmother's 90th birthday.
Kenji Koiso, an eleventh grade math genius, agrees to take a summer job at the Nagano hometown of his crush, Natuski. When he arrives, he finds that her family have reunited to celebrate the 90th birthday of the family matriarch. His job is to pretend to be Natsuki's fiancé. Meanwhile, his attempt to solve a mathematical equation causes a parallel world's collision with earth.
This is not a traditional Japanese anime. In the beginning, you hear both Japanese and English audio at the same time and may think there&#39;s something wrong with the movie. This goes away after a few minutes.<br/><br/>Half the story happens inside a computer network called Oz, where computer programs come to live and take on the appearance of a human/monster. For me, this is a big turn-off because I know computers don&#39;t work this way. Either the script is written by people who don&#39;t know much about computers, or the anime is meant to be viewed by people who don&#39;t know much about computers.<br/><br/>This is the main reason for the low rating. If you swallow this visualization of a computer, then you may like this anime more.<br/><br/>Why is it in animes, the main boy character always shows a lack of self confidence in front of a girl, but gets the girl nevertheless?
Every year we received a movie trailer for some new film that comes with the subtitle &quot;the family movie of the year&quot;. I&#39;ve never understood the term, until when I watched Summer Wars, and after that I understand, because this is the one and only &quot;family movie&quot;.<br/><br/>The story of the film starts pretty standard: one guy that has to pretend to be boyfriend of a girl to keep grandma happy on her birthday... We meet the family, as we meet any other film family: full of crazy and charismatic members... and then the movie breaks down: a computer virus threatens to bring down the net and also start and finish war, if possible... and everything for some mistakes happened on the family... we witness the struggle for survival, not of humanity, but a family, a family that needs to keep together and get everything for themselves... <br/><br/>The movie goes up and up every second, and has one of the most crazy, &quot;adrenalystic&quot; climaxes in cinema ever... and will leave you with your nails scratching your sofa... it&#39;s simply perfect.<br/><br/>The mix of traditional animation with cel-shade and cgi is beautiful, the virtual world allow for a lot of creativity, and the real world looks so full of life... this is a movie to enjoy on full HD.<br/><br/>In the end, this is a true story of how you always can rely on your family, no matter what bad the situation be... and you will love it...
Summer Wars surprisingly celebrates togetherness and bravery as much as binary-mathematics expertise, all helped along by a kick-ass synthesis of traditional hand-drawn scenes and fluid, rainbow-explosive CG artistry.
