Four adopted brothers come to avenge their mother's death in what appears to be a random killing in a grocery store robbery. However, the boys' investigation of the death reveals more nefarious activities involving the one brother's business dealings with a notorious local hoodlum. Two cops who are trying to solve the case may also not be what they seem.
The movie was enjoyable, that was actually very surprising since the previews seemed to give the entire movie away. Nonetheless, the cast that made up the four adopted brothers was very well put together and very appropriate for each role. I was happy to see that they weren't stereotypical roles, well not too stereotypical, at least compared to the characters on Singelton's 2 Fast 2 Furious...<br/><br/>Well onto more criticisms: First off it was pretty obnoxious how throughout the entire movie they made a big deal about Andre 3000 being part of the Union back in the day -- and how nearly everyone he bumped into was part of the Union with him, it became lame. There were also a lot of scenes that didn't add up, such as how they seemed to come to speedy conclusions as to how and who killed their foster mother, and how did Mark Walhberg get to the middle of the lake without a vehicle in what looked to be below zero temperature?! In the end the brothers prevail, but lack the power of the fantastic foursome since one of them did get shot in a crazy shootout sequence that did move me to the edge of my seat with anticipation! So if you are out for one of the last summer's blockbuster filled with roll your eyes kinda' action and loads of thoughtless entertainment that will satisfy the macho in us all, then this movie is the one for you! This movie just wasn't very good, and the current rating of 7.1 will slowly decrease as more sensible people vote on it. The plot was silly, the acting was mediocre, and the directing was surprisingly under par. Think for a second about the climax where Mark Wahlberg (who must have been hiding in the snow, or dropped from a plane) comes out of the middle of nowhere, bouncing menacingly to ridiculous hip hop music, and engages the "bad guy" in a fist fight. Accepting for the time being that he came out of nowhere and that's o.k., why oh why would the wahlberg character give his mother's murderer the chance for a fair fight. Also, how about the very first scene where the two hoods rob the convenience store. We learn later that they were sent there specifically to murder the old lady. But in the first scene of the movie, the two hoods don't even know the woman was there until she screams. The idea is that we will be surprised later on when we find out that she was assassinated. That's just cheap. Now I'm not saying this movie was a total piece of crap, but the problems I've mentioned (and there were many more), are common in B action movies, which is what Four Brothers is. It's just disguised as something different.
Because the script, riddled with verbal ugliness by David Elliot and Paul Lovett, sends the movie to a series of arbitrary nowheres, the final showdown for the Mercer boys and their enemies is just as meaningless and sense-deadening.
