Final Space is an epic animated sci-fi comedy about a spaceman named Gary who is working off a prison sentence and makes a mysterious new alien friend, Mooncake, that he immediately bonds with. But what Gary doesn't know is that his adorable new sidekick is actually wanted by the sinister Lord Commander who will stop at nothing to use Mooncake's untapped powers for evil.
When bored on Netflix your tempted with a lot of films and tv shows. As a fan of rick and morty, "final space" looked something I would probably watch with ease and maybe even enjoy. The first episode leaves you wanting more and by episode 4 you're a fan. Despite only 20 minute episodes the series does well in introducing all the characters and creating an intriguing storyline, but what surprised me most about this series is the emotional effect it had on me as a viewer. The humour is great, character development is on point and the storyline twists surprise you. A great little series to get involved in for a day until you've finished it.
This is a great series.Where Rick and Morty is the apex of the current cartoon trend that heroes don't exist and we are all meaningless, Final Space is actually a lot less cynical. In Final Space heroes do exist, and they suffer for it.<br/><br/>This gives the series a bitter sweet undertone. Due to this it might not be as hilariously funny as Rick and Morty, but it feels a lot richer in other ways. For one, I care a lot more for the characters in this series, and feel a lot more empathy for them when they suffer. With suffering I mean emotional suffering, like the loss of good friend, because this is still a cartoon, so who care about physical pain.<br/><br/>There's plenty of humor in this series though, although it's more tongue in cheek style instead of ROFLOL. It has however some more serious moments if you can see through the cartoon presentation. The comedic moments are often a welcome relief, and don't seem to be the sole purpose of this cartoon. It actually has a bit of a 2001: A Space Odyssey vibe going, probably in large part due to HUE, the HAL of Final Space. HUE is a lot more likable than HAL though, with some well timed snarky remarks thrown in.<br/><br/>This series does really deserves a place on it's own, but for the people who like a comparison with something they might know, it's a bit like Guardians of the Galaxy's darker and more sarcastic brother, with a but 2001: A Space Odyssey thrown in. Go watch it, it's worth it!
