It was a great subject matter: the total anarchy that resulted from the U.S. Civil War, allowing thieving, rapey, completely uncontrolled militia to victimize innocent civilians with impunity, regardless of their political stance.The set-up was great too: Former Southern belle takes on drifter gunslinger as a lover to protect her ranch and family against the aforementioned bands of marauders.What ruined it for me were uninspiring protagonists, implausible dialogue, and the huge plot hole at the very beginning.h was wishy-washy, immature, pouty, whiny, and annoying. She actually made Scarlett OHara seem like a walk in the park. H was just okay but the author right off the bat made him way ott. I dont care how quick of a draw you are, you cannot, by your lonesome, take out some twenty gun-toting baddies, and come out without a single scrape. Where are we, in SamPeckinpahLand?H and h meet when H rescues h from being raped by the Head Baddie in Charge. See aforementioned one-sided bloodbath. Despite taking out about half of the baddies who are in the process of attacking the ranch, H inexplicably fails to blow the head off the actual Head Baddie in Charge. H lets the Head Baddie in Charge slink away, giving him the perfect opportunity to regroup and come back to exact revenge.When h tries to seduce H into staying at her ranch and killing the Head Baddie in Charge upon his inevitable return, H tells her his honor wont let him commit murder in cold blood, despite all her considerable charms. Ummm, didnt he just come off a bloodbath where he killed and injured dozens of men without even blinking? Lesson learned: it is okay to murder and maim dozens of minions so long as you leave the Head Baddie in Charge alive so he can provide catalyst and motivation for the rest of the plot.DNF at 30%.
