Elektra, once a student of Kimagure, a force for good, whose masters can see the future and even bring people back from the dead, is now a paid assassin. The enemy, the force for evil, at this time is known as The Hand, whose members use the dark arts. In this tale Elektra is given an assignment to kill a man and his daughter. However when the time comes to complete the mission she is unable to. The daughter is also being sought by The Hand, for she is known as a treasure that can tip the scales in favor of either good or evil. The Hand, who have the policy of "If we can't have her then no one can", send their own people to kill her. Elektra then allies herself with the Millers and helps to protect them from The Hand. The journey to the climax, the ultimate battle between good and evil for the treasure, has some interesting revelations, heading for a finale with an interesting twist.
In the ultimate battle between good and evil stands a warrior who makes the choice that tips the balance. A strong, mysterious and a deadly sexy action heroine - a lethal synthesis of grace and power. Not long after recovering from seemingly mortal wounds, Elektra has severed all ties with the world, living only for her next assignment. But in an unexpected turn of events, she is forced to make a decision that can take her life in a new direction - or destroy her. Key players in Elektra's journey are Stick, a blind martial arts master responsible for Elektra's "resurrection," and Mark Miller and Abby Miller, a father and daughter on the run from The Hand, a powerful syndicate whose members practice the dark version of the martial art Kimagure.
Jennifer Garner kicking serious butt - what more could a teenage girl (or a boy with a crush) ask for? There were bits and pieces of the plot that made little or no sense, and they picked the worst actress to play Abby, but other than that, watching Jennifer Garner steal the scene was incredible! The weapons and stunts were fantastic, there were some positively witty conversations, the special effects were amazing, and the concepts were brilliantly conceived. Apart from disliking some costume and casting issues, this movie rocked! I was on the edge of my seat through the whole movie, laughing along the way, and just enjoying the amazing thrill ride. Jennifer Garner was really spectacular, and it was so great to see her as Elektra again after mourning her in Daredevil. Daredevil fans - get to the theaters. Now.
I rate studio films on a different scale than indie flicks. Studio films have finance, trained talent, equipment, etc. Indie flicks have varying degrees of ingenuity. So when a film has everything going for and comes up short, it just looks that much worse.

Guess what? Elektra survived her impalement at the hands of Bullseye (how? who cares). Rather than hooking back up with the love of her life Mr. Matt Murdock, she instead has joined up with some ninjas and works as an assassin. While preparing to complete a mission, she finds she can't kill the targets (why? she had dinner with them one time, some tough assassin) and decides to protect them instead. And the plot is off and running.

Everything about the movie is just plain bad or boring or dull or all three. Before the story gets moving, the audience is subjected to lots and lots of nothing except lengthy shots of Elektra sitting around being depressed and introvert.

Once she starts whooping up on some bad guys it doesn't get much better. The fights are exaggerated and touched up with some un-special FX. The bad guys erupt in clouds of green smoke when they die...GREEN SMOKE?!? Who the hell thought that would be cool? The choreography lacks the ethereal 'umph', they are little more than elaborate dance sequences. Not to mention than any and every action scene is so over done and heavy handed that not an ounce of real energy is ever produced. Example: Elektra goes swinging around on tree branches and then runs down the tree as it fall to the grounds, lands on her feet and not only doesn't hurt herself, she doesn't even break a sweat. I'm all for suspension of disbelief, but this is just stupid.

Of all the action flicks that have come out and will be available in short order, I can find no reason to recommend this to any one. Not even those anxious to ogle Jennifer Gardner 2/10
"Kill Bill" without irony, and without Quentin Tarantino's flair for cool dialogue and chop-socky action (and without Uma Thurman, for that matter), Elektra is a pretty-looking, pretty dull adaptation of the Marvel Comic about a dishy, deadly assassin.
In order to be able to get more people into the cinemas, the movie was cut down for a PG-13 rating. When the DVD hit the store, the original Director's Cut was released. a5c7b9f00b
