At first, the strange phone messages promised great wealth. Soon, though, government agents pursue the young engineer receiving them around the world.
Max Peterson is a globe-trotting techno-whiz who installs security systems on computers. He receives an anonymous gift: a phone which sends messages that enable him to win at a casino. Max soon finds himself pursed by hit men, the casino's security chief, and a CIA operative. Who's sending Max messages? Previous recipients of similar windfalls have ended up dead. After a couple of close scrapes, Max realizes he's in danger, so he tries to find out the root of the conspiracy - which seems to have access to every security camera in the world - before he's the next victim. Why is this happening to him, and who can he trust?
This is about a guy that falls into a money scam - but unlike most money scams it&#39;s not about getting screwed out of money but being blackmailed and killed. <br/><br/>Could have been better if they put more into it but for a low budget movie this is very good. It doesn&#39;t surprise me that people give it a low rating - they are just looking for blood and guts, violence, or sex. If you&#39;re looking for a witty movie, a family movie, and original plot, this is for you. <br/><br/>By low budget I don&#39;t mean it&#39;s badly filmed - they just didn&#39;t go all out financially to produce a block buster. I&#39;ve seen a lot of higher rated movies that are not as good - most of the time these movies have a lot of violence or sex (or video game like action) and get 8 or 10 stars when they are really 4 star or less movies. My honest rating is this is above average and worth watching. If it had a lot sex or violence in it they would rate it 10 stars. <br/><br/>The lead actor&#39;s part is someone you can relate with, a working class man that gets scammed in regards to some get rich scheme, and the actor himself does a good job adopting to the role.
I just have to say, a) I love that Shane West is back, it got creepy that he disappeared after A Walk to Rememberm and b) if you have not seen this movie, and you have seen Eagle Eye, I suggest you see this one, it has a better plot and more of an interesting approach to the idea of a computer trying to take over the nation. Eagle Eye may have had more kaboom, but it was too obvious from the beginning where at least this movie leads you to believe it is a person. I give this movie 8 out of ten because it could have had more to it but all in all it was great!! Shane West brings an new era of sophistication to this role, and almost geeky in a sense which makes the viewer, especially us women who love a good man to drool over!
There's nothing in Echelon Conspiracy as suspenseful or entertaining as your average episode of "24."
