Jerry and Rachel are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations, using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move.
Jerry Shaw is an amiable slacker with an over-achieving twin brother. After his twin dies in an accident, strange things happen to Jerry at a dizzying pace: a fortune shows up in his bank account, weapons are delivered to his flat, and a voice on his cell phone tells him the police are on their way. Jerry follows the voice's instructions, and soon he and a woman he's never met are racing through the city, on to a plane, and eventually to the Pentagon, chased by the FBI. She is Rachel Holloman, a single mom; the voice has threatened her son's death if she doesn't cooperate. The voice seems to know everything. Who is behind it, what is being planned, and why Jerry and Rachel?
The premise for Eagle Eye is one that backs itself into a nearly inescapable corner. Nearly, because there is one way out - and that is to breach the realm of the truly unbelievable, an area that can successfully be treaded if done right. Instead of finding its own unique angle to solve the fantastical mystery, Eagle Eye opts to retrace the footsteps of so many other films that the audience will be left reeling with déjà vu. A few clever action sequences and some sparsely scattered one-liners aren't enough to overcome the dreadfully recycled plot, and we're left with a movie that could have been a remake, should have been more original, and maybe shouldn't have been made.

Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) is an unambitious, underachieving, neglectful, and rather manipulative delinquent who skipped out on college and now barely gets by working at a copy shop. When Jerry's apartment is inexplicably sent large amounts of explosives and hi-tech weaponry, a cryptic caller informs him that he has been "activated" and must perform several tasks or face death. Dragged into the deadly conspiracy is Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), a single mother who must work with Jerry or risk the life of her young son. Together they must unravel the mystery behind the threatening caller, all while being hunted by the FBI, the military, and the all-seeing eyes of a force able to control every facet of computer technology.

Shia LaBeouf perfectly portrays the fast-talking, quick-thinking Hitchcockian fish-out-of-water mistakenly confused with his in-too-deep counterpart. He brings an enthusiastic charisma to his role and feeds off the energy of his co-stars. These kinds of performances rarely tire – unfortunately these kinds of movies do. While Shia offers up as much bravado as he can, his co-stars run into the dire situation of being stock characters, ones who don't receive enough screen time to become interesting, and sadly probably wouldn't be if they did. Other than Billy Bob Thornton, who gleams as a sarcastic, slightly foul-mouthed wise-cracking FBI agent, the rest of the cast are easily forgotten. Even Michelle Monaghan only provides a tagalong worried mother and not much else. Rosario Dawson's stern air force investigator and Michael Chiklis as the Secretary of Defense both feel utterly wasted and ultimately trivial pieces of the puzzle.

The mystery is far more entertaining than the answers, which is a shame since we learn (or can easily predict) the true nature behind the omniscient Eagle Eye early on. Once we realize the direction in which the plot is headed, it becomes a mess of derivative ideas seen in far too many other films. Not an ounce of originality is left and we see heavily borrowed elements from Hitchcock, Kubrick, Terminator 2, The Matrix, I, Robot and many others. If you're going to steal ideas, you might as well take from the best. Oddly, Eagle Eye doesn't heed this advice and liberally lifts from the best, the worst, and everything in-between.

Joel Massie

An entertaining action thriller that is never a dull moment. It's heart pounding from start to finish. And two lead characters who you really relate too. Eagle Eye is like a combination of the suspense films of Alfred Hitchcock, and spy thriller novels of Robert Ludlum.

It begins with Jerry(Shia LaBeouf) and Rachel(Michelle Monagham last seen in Made Of Honor), two strangers with nothing in common, except they are both become drawn into a deadly game, when they get calls on there cell phones, a mysterious female voice telling them they half to too obey, or them and loved ones will suffer. They both don't know what it's all about, but they go along with it anyway. There both on the run, soon becoming hunted by cops and FBI. Will they get out of this alive? And will they ever find out who is really behind this?

Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monagham give descent performances. There both real people in an unreal situation. Michael Chiklis, Rosario Dawson, Billy Bob Thorton are also great in there roles too. It also has incredible car chase scenes. You won't be disappointed.
The movie itself is hyperactive and a jumble.
Screenwriter Dan McDermott wrote the original script for Eagle Eye based on an idea by American director Steven Spielberg. When Spielberg was replaced as director by D.J. Caruso, McDermott's script was rewritten by screenwriters Eli Attie, John Glenn, Travis Wright, and Hillary Seitz. It is four time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore. This was confirmed by Rosario Dawson. Moore chose to be uncredited. Nope, not this time. Just your standard end credits. While Ariia's 73% unsaved memory was destroyed by Perez, her 27% saved is probably nowhere near as powerful and is therefore useless, wherever it may be. Other theories could be that the saved memory will return in a possible though improbable sequel, or that the memory was never actually saved and all of Ariia was destroyed at the same time, or the saved memory was found and destroyed. The most likely theory would be the latter since a sequel will probably never be in the works. There is an alternate ending that set up a sequel in which Sam was contacted by Ariia through his Xbox. However, that ending was not used, and therefore no other possible continuity is being set up for later on. a5c7b9f00b
