This movie hardly qualifies as good or serious, nor does any fantasy film. But if you look at it as a movie intended as a fun adventure movie, then it hits the mark. This is matinee fun. It is slightly on the silly side with the hero (Lee Horsley) running around being arrogant and delivering one-liners. It is also somewhat scary (at least when I first saw it) especially with the initial scene. The film switches effortlessly between scary and amusing. This film has better plot and better acting than films like Beastmaster or Dungeons and Dragons.<br/><br/>I liked this film when I was a teenager and I liked it still as an adult. It was just a matter of getting into the right mindset. If you like fantasy flicks and can get into that mindset, you will like this film. And if you can get it for $5 like me, even better. <br/><br/>Acting comment: Extra points to George Maharis and Richard Lynch for their acting, minus points to Earl Maynard who seem to have decided that since the movie was a tad on the silly side, then he was going to act silly.
Despite one of the silliest plot devices/props ever conceived (a triple -bladed sword that fires its two spare blades at the touch of a button) this is one of the most enjoyable movies of the genre. While taking itself seriously as a narrative, it never fails to point up the comic potential in the various situations that the characters find themselves in. For examplem the hero, Talon, while being pursued by the palace guard, crashes through a window and finds himself sprawled in the middle of the topless harem. What to do, what to do...<br/><br/>It&#39;a also a good movie for playing &quot;Pick the person who became famous later. &quot; Some of them are nearly unrecognizable in the costumes or makeup. Keep an eye on the credits.<br/><br/>A note before the end credits suggested a sequel. It&#39;s too bad it was never made.
Editor Marshall Harvey stitches the messy pieces together with considerable panache.
