In THE HUMAN RACE a group of 80 people are ripped out of their daily lives and all re-appear in an undisclosed location. These people are from all walks of life: young and old, athletic and disabled, white-collared and homeless. The rules to a race boom in their heads, in their own voice and language, laying out what will become a horrific race of terror: 'If you are lapped twice, you die. If you step off the path, you die. If you touch the grass, you will die. Race... or die.'
well... to sum it up: waste of time! <br/><br/>acting is bad, plot inexistent, exploding heads, violence just for the sake of it, people running around in some mysterious nonsense race, great body chick not showing any nudity... :) i went on a team building a little time ago. among others we made few short movies using cheap cameras, some costumes. we did the acting, directing and editing. our movies were decent compared to this!<br/><br/>i&#39;m wondering how this movie can have 5+ rating. seems 55% of the voters gave it a 8,9 and 10. 9% gave it a solid 1. i can&#39;t see how this many people would consider this a masterpiece! i&#39;m suspecting foul play. somebody related to this did some pr stunt. waste of time! it&#39;s so bad it&#39;s not worth it pirating even!
This is a good movie. Plain and simple. Its not really a horror in the normal definition of the word, its more a survival with some gore thrown in. <br/><br/>I like the fact that it had an ending, although the &#39;voice&#39; was difficult to understand and I had no idea what it was saying. But it did lead into a second movie which I think was a bad idea. Especially after reading the difficulties in its production, its highly unlikely a sequel will ever happen. But don&#39;t let that put you off watching it, as the race does have a satisfactory conclusion.<br/><br/>The camera looks low grade at times, and their is a distinct lack of colour in the image which makes the look of the movie feel cheap and low-budget. It takes about ten minutes to get use to it, but once your &#39;in the zone&#39; your fine with it. <br/><br/>There are a couple of long unnecessary flashbacks at the start which I guess were setup as red herrings. But after fifteen minutes thats the last of them and we focus on the race, which is where the main interest is.<br/><br/>The writers did a good job at creating characters that displayed all the different personality traits that people in these circumstances might have had. They were perhaps exaggerated, especially when you consider the short amount of time they had been racing for before they went of the deep end. But this is a movie and you have to allow for some jumps in the plot to keep the movie going and interesting. So I was fine with this. <br/><br/>This is a good movie and should a big budget remake ever get green lit with Nicolas Cage Rutger Huger and Val Kilmer, it might restart their careers. It would also warrant a cinema release. But until then, check out this film. Its Death Race meets Battle Royale, meets Hunger Games and you will enjoy it.
One test for movies like this is whether they bemoan the inevitable gore or revel in it; The Human Race too often falls into the latter, amplifying and focusing on the bloodshed.
